  • St. Anthony’s marks Anglican church’s first year

    St. Anthony’s Anglican Church, Crab Orchard, celebrated its first anniversary as a mission church on Passion Sunday, March 25th.

    Twenty-four people attended the Holy Eucharist service led by Father Ernie Pinto. A ham dinner, complete with a large decorated cake marking the occasion, followed.

    In addition to the normal set of parishioners, including many from Roane County, St. Anthony’s welcomed visitors from area churches as well as visitors from Holy Cross Anglican Church in Farragut.

  • Three years for One Faith

    Pastor Shawn Hatfield and his wife, Heather, will help One Faith Community Church, Rockwood, commemorate its third anniversary with a special celebration during the 11 a.m. worship service April 1 in Roane County Skating Center on North Gateway Avenue.

    The celebration will also commemorate Hatfield’s fifth year in the ministry.

  • Palm Sunday program to be at West Hills

    The Harriman Music Club’s annual community Palm Sunday program will be presented at 2:30 p.m. April 1 in West Hills Presbyterian Church at 506 West Hills Drive, Harriman.

    Vocal and instrumental soloists, ensembles and choirs from the community will provide musical selections in remembrance of this day.

    The Harriman Music Club presents the program as its annual gift to the Roane County community.

    • Kingston United Methodist Church’s All 4 Kids sale will begin at 9 a.m. in the fellowship hall of Bethel Presbyterian Church at 203 S. Kentucky St., Kingston. The sale continues from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

    SATURDAY, MARCH 10
    • Riggs Chapel Baptist Church, Harriman, will have its first-ever Only Believe family rally beginning at 6 p.m. in the church at 623 Riggs Chapel Road. The church’s youth drama team, with help from some of the adults, will perform skits and songs. Bruce Armes will be the guest speaker.

  • Welk singer to be in Kingston

    Ava Barber, a featured performer on “The Lawrence Welk Show,” will be the guest performer next week during the meeting of Kingston First Baptist Church’s Young at Heart.

    The meeting will begin at 10:30 a.m. March 5 in the church’s family life center at 215 N. Kentucky St.

    The program is open to the public. Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish or dessert for the meal afterward.

  • Former OS school to be part of talk at Baptist Association

    Julia Hopper Daniel of Oliver Springs will discuss the history of the former Oliver Springs Colored School during this weekend’s Women’s Ministry program of the Knoxville District Baptist Association.

    The program, which is open to the public, will begin at 10 a.m. Feb. 25 in New Friendship Baptist Church at 1933 Texas Ave., Knoxville.

  • Don Long named pastor at Laurel Bluff Baptist

    Laurel Bluff Baptist Church, Kingston, recently called Don Long as its pastor.

    Long has been a Southern Baptist pastor for 47 years. He has served on the Brotherhood Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention and as president of the Tennessee Baptist Convention Pastors Conference.

    He has been a volunteer chaplain with the Florida Highway Patrol, Chattanooga Police Department and the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

  • Snodgrass taking reins at Rockwood Presbyterian

    Rockwood Presbyterian Church welcomes a new minister to the pulpit on Feb. 26.

    Charles Snodgrass officially began his ministry with the 140-year-old church on Jan. 1, but he will be installed and ordained as minister at a special service at 5 p.m. Feb. 26 in the church at 429 W. Rockwood St.

    A reception in the church’s fellowship hall will follow the service. The community is welcome to attend.

  • Jones marks 35 years as Harriman Baptist Tabernacle pastor

    The congregation of Harriman Baptist Tabernacle will celebrate Pastor James F. Jr. and Sandra Jones’ 35th year of serving the church with a special service on Feb. 26.

    David C. Gibbs Jr., president of the Christian Law Association, will be the guest speaker for the service, which starts at 11 a.m.

    The church is at 1420 Old Roane St.
