  • Alcoa minister to lead Sevier gospel meeting

    Alcoa Church of Christ Minister Lee Brown will lead a gospel meeting Aug. 5-7 at Sevier Drive Church of Christ, Harriman.

    Services will begin at 7 p.m. daily in the church at 1014 Sevier Drive.

    “The Church That Jesus Built,” based on Matthew 16-18, is the theme.

    Brown is a Monroe, Ala., native and the fourth of five children.

    “Lee is a down-home country boy with a love for the Lord,” said Sevier Drive member Darlene Barksdale Johnson. “That can be seen wherever he goes.”

    • Kingston First Baptist Church Young at Heart will meet at 10:30 a.m. in Kingston United Methodist Church at 212 W. Church St. (Note: new meeting site.) U.S. Marshal Derrick Swenson will present the program. Those attending are asked to bring meat, meat dish, vegetables or dessert for the following potluck meal; drinks and bread will be provided. The group will meet at the new site until renovations at Kingston First Baptist Church are complete in early 2014.

  • Kid to use chicken savvy in missions

    John Vermillion hopes his chicken-raising experience with 4-H will pay off when he goes on a family mission trip with Cedar Grove Baptist Church of Kingston.

    New youth leader Drew Stockton has been focusing on mission trips, and Vermillion is joining one of those trips to Nicaragua in July.

    Vermillion said some of the projects include building chicken coops, something he has experience in.

    “Actually this is going to be my first one (out of the country),” Vermillion said.
