  • Snodgrass taking reins at Rockwood Presbyterian

    Rockwood Presbyterian Church welcomes a new minister to the pulpit on Feb. 26.

    Charles Snodgrass officially began his ministry with the 140-year-old church on Jan. 1, but he will be installed and ordained as minister at a special service at 5 p.m. Feb. 26 in the church at 429 W. Rockwood St.

    A reception in the church’s fellowship hall will follow the service. The community is welcome to attend.

  • Jones marks 35 years as Harriman Baptist Tabernacle pastor

    The congregation of Harriman Baptist Tabernacle will celebrate Pastor James F. Jr. and Sandra Jones’ 35th year of serving the church with a special service on Feb. 26.

    David C. Gibbs Jr., president of the Christian Law Association, will be the guest speaker for the service, which starts at 11 a.m.

    The church is at 1420 Old Roane St.

  • Holy Rollers: One Faith taking up services at skating rink

    For a church without a building, the congregation of Rockwood’s One Faith Community Church has stayed strongly united.

    Once moved from the retail space next to Goody’s, the church later moved to an area of Midtown.

    Its newest home is in a rather unique location: the Roane County Skating Center.

    Skating Center Manager Virgil Thompson is a friend of One Faith Pastor Shawn Hatfield. He has agreed to allow the church to have services at 7 p.m. Thursday and at 11 a.m. Sunday.

  • Beech Park marking pastor anniversary

    Beech Park Baptist Church in Oliver Springs will honor its pastor and his family at 6 p.m. Jan. 15.

    The Rev. Robbie Leach has served as senior pastor for the last 10 years.

    The celebration is open to church members, friends and the community.

    A reception will follow after a time of acknowledgment and appreciation in the sanctuary.

  • Cooper to conduct winter revival at Oliver Springs B&B

    A four-day winter revival will be Jan. 15-18 in the Windmill Inn Bed and Breakfast in Oliver Springs.

    Russ Cooper of Vonore will be guest speaker for the services, which begin at 6 p.m. Sunday and at 6:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.

    There will be special music each night, including Julia Smith, Sonya Craze and Tiffany Martin.

    Casual attire is appropriate.

    The Windmill B&B is at 606 Butler Miller Mill Road, just west of the Dollar General Store in Oliver Springs.

  • New pastor in Midtown

    Midtown Church of God has named Jesse H. Youngblood as its new pastor.

    Youngblood said he and his wife, Melissa, “are committed to growing a fellowship of believers to become spiritually balanced in the Word, Worship and the Holy Spirit's power for living everyday lives.”

    Services begin at 11 a.m. each Sunday, and Younblood said plans are to begin Sunday night services in the near future.

    The church is at 565 Keylon Drive.

  • Billy Hodges bringing solo act to Kingston’s Shiloh Baptist

    Well-known gospel tenor Billy Hodges will sing this weekend in Shiloh Baptist Church.

    Hodges, formerly with the Kingdom Heirs, the Dixie Echoes and the Florida Boys, will sing beginning at 6 p.m. Jan. 8 in the church at 4242 Decatur Hwy.

    “I am excited about the opportunities that God has given me,” said Hodges, a native of rural West Tennessee who plans to present his solo act in select venues during 2012.
