  • Church Calendar: June 30-July 1

    SATURDAY, JUNE 30
    • A fundraising concert will be from 4 to 9:30 p.m. in South Harriman Baptist Church at 626 Ruritan Road. Proceeds from the concert will benefit a London mission trip for Three Rivers Community Baptist Church, Kingston. Christian Rock, gospel and contemporary music will be played by Encounter Eternal, Affliction Asylum, Sean Blockley, Rather to be Chosen and Greg Patterson.

  • Howard appointed to St. Andrew’s

    Harry Howard has been appointed by the Episcopal Diocese of East Tennessee to assume the pastoral responsibilities at St. Andrew’s Church, Harriman.

    Serving in various positions for the Diocese since 2005, Howard has taught courses in systematic theology, moral theology and ascetic theology to deacon postulants who were preparing for the priesthood.

    He was also involved in the lay ministry licensure program, teaching Old and New Testament courses to lay persons seeking credentials to serve the Church in various positions.

  • Salem Baptist marking 135 years

    Salem Baptist Church, Ten Mile, will celebrate its 135-year anniversary with special activities June 30 and July 1.

    The church was established in 1877 and has opened its doors for weekly services consistently for these 135 years.

    Pastor Ted Clower said he and the congregation invite former pastors and members to share in the celebration services.

    The Saturday service will begin at 4 p.m.

    Breakin’ Ground, a group of young singers and instrumentalists, will provide music for the service.

  • CCW awards scholarship to Michaela Grubb

    Michaela Grubb, a 2012 Roane County High School graduate, was recently awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Council of Catholic Women at Blessed Sacrament Church, Harriman.

    Grubb, daughter of Blessed Sacrament parishioners Melissa and Ralph Grubb of Kingston, graduated with a 4.093 grade-point average. She plans to major in music therapy at Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville.

    Ranked fifth in her graduating class, Grubb was active in church, school and community projects.

  • Vacation Bible School 2012

    Asbury Chapel United Methodist
    Asbury Chapel United Methodist Church, Rockwood, will have its vacation Bible school from 6 to 8 p.m. June 24-27 in the church at 1717 Eureka Road. Classes are available for ages 2-12; the week will kick off with a Sunday night cookout.

    Anointed Praise and Worship
    Vacation Bible school at Anointed Praise and Worship Church, Harriman, will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. June 18-22 in the church at 507 Morgan St. A fun day is planned from 6 to 8:30 p.m. June 16.

    Asbury Chapel United Methodist Church, Rockwood, will have its vacation Bible school from 6 to 8 p.m. June 24-27 in the church at 1717 Eureka Road. Classes are available for ages 2-12; the week will kick off with a Sunday night cookout.

    • Dogwood Baptist Church, Kingston, will have a singing at 7 p.m. The Melodys and Gospel Travelers will be featured. The church is on Dogwood Valley Road.

    • Harriman First Presbyterian Church will have its Love Kitchen from 5 to 7 p.m. in the church at 601 Clinton St. Free food and bingo are among the attractions; the Transitions young adults minstry from Bethel Presbyterian Church will be helping out.

  • Pro2Serve and Roane Imagination Library kick off donation challenge

    Roane Imagination Library has teamed up with corporate sponsor Pro2Serve to match the first $5,000 raised by new donors and those who haven’t donated in the last year.

    Pro2Serve, an engineering services company on the Oak Ridge National Lab campus, and Roane Imagination Library kicked off this challenge late last month.

    For current donors, those who donate in 2011 or already in 2012, Pro2Serve will match the increase in the donors’ contribution dollar for dollar.
