  • Harriman Music Club plans annual Palm Sunday service

    Harriman Music Club is in the throes of planning its annual community Palm Sunday program.

    The program will be at 2:30 p.m. April 17 in Bethel Presbyterian Church at 203 S. Kentucky St., Kingston.

    There is no admission charge to attend.

    For most of its 100 years’
    existence, Harriman Music Club has sponsored and presen-
    ted this program as its annual gift to the Roane County community to honor and praise the Lord.

  • Harriman Lenten services kick off March 16

    The 16th annual Harriman Ministerial Association weekly Lenten services will start on March 16 in Harriman United Methodist Church.

    These services began in 1996, when the Rev. Alton Johnson of Harriman United Methodist Church suggested that the church cooperate with the Harriman Ministerial Association to expand their annual Lenten services.  

    Since then, the Lenten services have been an opportunity for Christians to join together for worship and fellowship as they prepare for Easter celebra-
    tions.

  • Redeemed Quartet to give concert this weekend at Kellytown

    Redeemed Quartet will appear in concert at 6 p.m. March 6 in Kellytown Baptist Church, Oliver Springs.

    The Chattanooga-based Southern gospel quartet sings four-part harmony in a ministry aimed at winning souls to Christ. Their repertoire is filled with a variety of numbers. Sometimes they laugh, sometimes they cry — and at all times they rejoice in the glory and honor of God.  

    The quartet includes Chad Riley, Rodger Speegle, Ken Maynor and Lonnie Walker.

  • Bethel ministry has art classes for all ages

    Several hands-on arts opportunities are available in the next few weeks through Bethel Arts Ministry.

    The ministry, a program of Kingston’s Bethel Presbyterian Church, offers classes for all ages.

    All classes will be in the church at 203 S. Kentucky St. Call 376-6340 to register or for details.

    Micki Anderson, a state-certified art educator with 15 years of teaching experience, will continue children’s arts classes March 9-April 20.

  • St. Andrew’s starts Lent with feast, Ash Wednesday services

    Two events at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Harriman, will mark the beginning of preparation for the most important holy day of the Christian year.

    An annual feast of pancakes will be served from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Shrove Tuesday, March 8, in the church at 190 Circle Drive. Two traditional Ash Wednesday services will take place at noon and 7 p.m. March 9.

  • Donations to help Rockwood Ministerial Association

    The Rockwood Ministerial Association recently received monetary contributions from two community sources.

    A donation from Holston Gases in Rockwood and a $1,000 contribution from the Rockwood Masonic Lodge will help the group stock its Food Pantry, which is open from 10 a.m. to noon each weekday and from 2 to 4 p.m. each Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

    Rockwood residents are welcome to go to the Food Pantry once a month for a generous package of canned and boxed foods.

  • Methodist supt. to be revival speaker

    Adam E. McKee III, superintendent of the Oak Ridge District of the Holston Conference of  the United Methodist Church, will be the guest speaker for the upcoming spring revival at Bradbury United Methodist Church, Kingston.

    The revival will be March 20-24 in the church at 3506 Buttermilk Road West. Services will begin at 7 p.m. daily.  Special music is planned.

    McKee has served as pastor at Lennon-Seney United Methodist Church, Knoxville District, since 2003.

  • Singing to help Hands of Mercy

    Three East Tennessee gospel groups will be featured during a singing this weekend to benefit Hands of Mercy Food Bank.

    The concert will begin at 7 p.m. Feb. 26 in Youngs Chapel Church fellowship hall, Kingston. Admission is free; those attending are asked to bring a donation of nonperishable food.

    Featured singers will be Dudley Evans and The Evans Family of Rockwood, The Foothills Quartet of Rockford and The Chapel Voices of Kingston, which will sing gospel classics in the style made famous by the nationally acclaimed Chuckwagon Gang.

    Knights of Columbus representatives from Father Callahan Council 8273, Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Harriman, present checks totaling $7,047 to the Michael Dunn Center.
