  • Kelly new Riverside pastor

    Riverside Baptist Church, Harriman, recently welcomed the Rev. Greg Kelly as its new pastor.

    Kelly, a native of Roane County, began his pastoral duties at Riverside on Nov. 1.

    He is married to the former Julie Guettner of Kingston, and they have two children, AnnaLauren and Jackson.

    Kelly is a graduate of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, holding a Master of Divinity in pastoral care.

    He also holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

  • Beech Park kindergarten class giving back

    In the spirit of Christmas and giving to others, members of Beech Park Baptist Church’s kindergarten class, including, from left, Laila Luke, Raegan Green, Britton Tackett, Olivia Kitterman, Brooklyn Bradley and Maddox Tackett have been busy collecting items to send for Project Back Country-Mexico Christmas.

    The class is led by Sherry Brown and Frances Cromwell.

    Beech Park Baptist Church is at 1085 Tri County Blvd., Oliver Springs.

  • First Baptist Young at Heart heads back home

    Kingston First Baptist Church’s Young at Heart will be returning to its home next month in the church’s family life center.

    The group moved its monthly meetings to Kingston United Methodist Church for more than a year while Kingston First Baptist Church’s building program was underway.

    Its first meeting back will begin at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 1. Kingston First Baptist Church is at 215 N. Kentucky St.

    “We are growing by leaps and bounds,” said Young at Heart member Gina Ross of attendance at the church.

  • ‘Lip Service’ theme of Sevier Drive’s Ladies Inspiration Day

    “Christian Women, Do You Give Lip Service?” was this year’s theme for the 39th annual Ladies Inspiration Day recently hosted by the women of Sevier Drive Church of Christ, Harriman.

    The theme was taken from Matthew 7:21-23.

    Ruby Simmons of East Second Street Church of Christ, Cleveland, was the featured speaker.

    She talked about how people will try to discourage other people from serving the Lord by their negative conversations about others, and other offensive talks that might hurt an individual.

  • South Harriman Baptist set to present ‘For Unto You’ drama

    South Harriman Baptist Church will begin its presentation this weekend of “For Unto You,” a four-part drama heralding the Christmas season.

    The drama will begin at 11 a.m. each Sunday from Nov. 30-Dec. 21.

    It begins on Nov. 30 with “The Foretelling,” in which prophets of old disclose the coming of a special gift.

    “The Promise” will be presented on Dec. 7. In that part, Mary and Joseph will learn about their special mission.

  • Golden milestone for St. Andrew’s

    St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Harriman, will have a birthday party on Nov. 23.

    The church will celebrate its 50th year at its current site in West Hills at 190 Circle Drive.

    The celebration will follow the 10 a.m. church service.

    St. Andrew’s present structure was built in 1964 because the church’s former home had become too small for the needs of the parish.

    On June 28, 1964, the Right Rev. John Vander Horst, bishop of Tennessee dedicated the new block and stone building overlooking the city.

  • Barkley ordained with Rockwood’s River Gate Church

    The Rev. David M. Barkley was recently ordained with River Gate Church, Rockwood, where he has been pastor since 2011.

    Barkley attended Spring Arbor University, graduated from Caribbean College of the Bible, and previously pastored churches in Michigan, Knox and Morgan counties.

    He is a teacher of the Word, moving in the prophetic and five-fold ministry.

    He has served as evangelist and missionary to Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Africa and the Navajo Nation in New Mexico.

  • Rockwood Thanksgiving service Nov. 23

    Rockwood Ministerial Association will have its annual Rockwood Community Thanksgiving Celebration on Nov. 23.

    The celebration will begin at 6 p.m. in Rockwood First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) at 328 W. Rockwood St.

    Special music will be provided.

    The speaker will be the Rev. Sam Reese, pastor of Asbury Chapel United Methodist Church. Several Rockwood ministers will participate.

    The offering will assist in the many Community Care Ministries of the Rockwood Ministerial Association.

  • Thanksgiving meal, singing on Victorious agenda

    Victorious, a gospel group that includes Dudley Evans, Doug and Susie Johnson and Johnny Hamilton, will sing during M-14’s Thanksgiving dinner at David Webb Riverfront Park in Harriman.

    Free dinner will be served by the ministry of Epic Church (formerly Courts of Praise) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 27.

    Victorious will sing at noon; Joe Seiber will preach.

    Free groceries will be distributed.

  • Applications sought from Rockwoodians needing holiday help

    Rockwood Ministerial Association will begin accepting applications next week for its annual Christmas Food Basket Program.

    Sign-up periods will be from 10 a.m. to noon weekdays from Nov. 10-21 in the RMA Food Pantry at 223 N. Front Ave.

    Applications will be accepted for families in the Rockwood area.

    Applicants will need to have proper identifica-

    tion and documentation regarding total monthly income.

    More than 300 baskets will be packed beginning at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 19 in Rockwood First Christian Church at 328 W. Rockwood St.
