  • Rockwood letter carriers deliver to help hungry

    Letter carriers with the Rockwood Post Office collected about 5,000 pounds of food during their annual food drive earlier this month.

    Postal patrons left their donations of nonperishable foods in their mailboxes.

    The food was picked up by the letter carriers making their routes and later delivered to the Rockwood Ministerial Association’s food pantry warehouse.

    Childs Memorial Baptist
    Vacation Bible school at Childs Memorial Baptist Church, Harriman, will be from 6 to 8:45 p.m. June 10-14 at the church at 402 Childs Road. Supper will be served daily. Call 354-6544 for details or transportation.

  • Safety Awareness Day planned at Grace Church

    Grace Church, Kingston, will have a Community Safety Awareness Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 4 at the church at 438. W. Race St.

    The event, in cooperation with the Roane County Sheriff's Office, will include numerous safety displays.

    The Meth Awareness trailer, provided in part with Roane County Sheriff’s Office narcotics unit and methamphetamine team and the Tennessee Methamphetamine and Pharmaceutical task force, will allow meth unit team members to demonstrate their equipment to the public.

  • Emory Gap church to mark Founders Day

    Emory Gap Independent Church of God, Harriman, will celebrate Founders Day and its 50-year anniversary on May 5.

    The service will honor the church’s founders, Edward and Edna Presswood.

    Emory Gap Independent Church of God is at 234 Morris Road.

    • New Midway Baptist Church, Kingston, will have a free spring fling from 1 to 4 p.m. with food and games for all ages. A basketball game between the church’s youth and adults begins at 4:30 p.m. The church is at 240 New Midway Road.

  • Elvis tribute shows to help stock food pantry

    Courts of Praise Church, Harriman, will have some king-sized help to raise money and food donations for its food pantry with Memories of Elvis this weekend.

    Rick Hammond will present two shows that pay tribute to Elvis Presley, known as The King of Rock’n’Roll.

    His Memories of Elvis begins at 7 p.m. May 3 in the Princess Theatre. Doors open at 6:30; admission is $10 per person or $5 with donation of canned food items.

  • Courthouse to be National Day of Prayer locale

    Parson’s Rest Ministries, Rockwood, will lead a public National Day Prayer event at noon May 2 on the front steps of the Roane County Courthouse, Kingston.

    Millions will answer the call to prayer on May 2 in observance of the 62nd annual National Day of Prayer.

    This year’s theme, “Pray for America,” is based on Matthew 12:21 — “In His name the nations will put their hope.”
