  • Donations to help Rockwood Ministerial Association

    The Rockwood Ministerial Association recently received monetary contributions from two community sources.

    A donation from Holston Gases in Rockwood and a $1,000 contribution from the Rockwood Masonic Lodge will help the group stock its Food Pantry, which is open from 10 a.m. to noon each weekday and from 2 to 4 p.m. each Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

    Rockwood residents are welcome to go to the Food Pantry once a month for a generous package of canned and boxed foods.

  • Eat pancakes to help feed seniors

    A pancake breakfast is planned this weekend to support the work of Mid-East Community Action Agency’s senior nutrition program.

    The breakfast will be from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Feb. 26 in Victorian Square Assisted Living, Rockwood.

    The $5-per-person cost includes pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee.

    All proceeds from the breakfast will benefit the senior nutrition program.

  • Methodist supt. to be revival speaker

    Adam E. McKee III, superintendent of the Oak Ridge District of the Holston Conference of  the United Methodist Church, will be the guest speaker for the upcoming spring revival at Bradbury United Methodist Church, Kingston.

    The revival will be March 20-24 in the church at 3506 Buttermilk Road West. Services will begin at 7 p.m. daily.  Special music is planned.

    McKee has served as pastor at Lennon-Seney United Methodist Church, Knoxville District, since 2003.

  • Want to grow your groceries?

    “Grow Your Own Groceries: From Seed to Shelf” is the topic of Roane County Master Gardeners’ fifth community winter workshop.

    The free two-part workshop, sponsored by Extension Agent Grant Palmer and Roane County Extension, will be on March 12. Lunch will be provided for a fee.

    Preregistration is required. Call 376-4497 for details.

    Area experts will be on hand to teach about soils, starting plants from seeds and good overall approaches to and techniques for home gardening.

  • Embark on 'A Sentimental Journey' with Roane Choral Society

    Roane Choral Society will present “A Sentimental Journey” at 7 p.m. March 5 in the student lounge on Roane State Community College’s main campus.

    The evening with coffee and dessert will include Roane Choral’s renditions of old favorites such as “Sentimental Journey,” “As Time Goes By” and “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes.”

    A three-piece band will accompany the singers. Several ensembles are also planned.

  • Singing to help Hands of Mercy

    Three East Tennessee gospel groups will be featured during a singing this weekend to benefit Hands of Mercy Food Bank.

    The concert will begin at 7 p.m. Feb. 26 in Youngs Chapel Church fellowship hall, Kingston. Admission is free; those attending are asked to bring a donation of nonperishable food.

    Featured singers will be Dudley Evans and The Evans Family of Rockwood, The Foothills Quartet of Rockford and The Chapel Voices of Kingston, which will sing gospel classics in the style made famous by the nationally acclaimed Chuckwagon Gang.

  • Avery Elise Fritz

    Avery Elise Fritz of Kingston celebrated her eighth birthday on Feb. 1 with family and friends at Roane County Skating Center in Rockwood.

    She is the daughter of Matt and Angie Thomas Fritz of Kingston.

    Grandparents are Jim and Becky Moates Thomas of Kingston, and Ernest and Cynthia Fritz of Harrison.

    Great-grandmothers are Madeline Moates of Rockwood and Betty Pratt of Urbana, Ohio.

    Avery has a 5-year-old sister, Braxton Olivia.

  • Give blood next week at drives in Harriman

    How does one become a member of Medic Regional Blood Center?

    It’s easy: those who have donated blood within the last year are automatically Medic members.

    Being a member of Medic protects both donors and their IRS dependents. One blood donation a year exempts donors and their IRS dependents from paying blood-collection or blood-processing fees anywhere in the U.S. if a transfusion is needed.

  • Mr. & Mrs. Dunbar

    Meredith Michelle Potts and Samuel Cuyler Dunbar were married on Dec. 11 in St. Paul Community Church, Nashville.

    The Rev. Jack Carver of Gallatin officiated during the ceremony.

    The bride is the daughter of David and Jeannie Potts of Memphis. Her grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Garland Brinson of Burleson, Texas, and Louise Potts of Jackson GA.

    The groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Cuyler Dunbar of Conover N.C. He is the grandson of Verdell Martin of Conover.

    Wedding musicians were organist Trudy Bain and acoustic guitarist Garrett Glass of Port Murray, N.J.
