Mr. and Mrs. John W. Townsend Jr. of Lenoir City, formerly of the Midway community in Roane County, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Dec. 17.

A reception in their honor will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 11 in Stone Crossing Subdivision Clubhouse on Hwy. 70, Lenoir City. All relatives and friends are invited to stop by at any time during the reception.

Townsend and the former Faye Branson were married on Dec. 17, 1950.

He is retired from Maremont Corp., and she is a nurse at Sweetwater Medical Clinic.

John and Wanda Pair will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Nov. 24.

A reception in their honor will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Nov. 20 in North Rockwood Baptist Church fellowship hall.

The Pairs were married on Nov. 24, 1960, in Eagle Furnace Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bob Farner officiating.

The couple has a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Janet Pair; and a daughter, Patty Isham.

There are four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Roane Countians have three area opportunities to show their true Volunteer spirit by giving blood during Medic Regional Blood Center’s annual Battle of the Orange and Blue blood drive competition starting today, Monday.

The annual event pits fans of the University of Tennessee Vols against fans of the University of Kentucky Wildcats; the side collecting the most blood donations for the week is the winner.  

The competition runs Nov. 15-19, and things kick off with two blood drive in Roane County from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today.

Tennessee State Treasurer David Lillard will speak at the Nov. 16 Lunch with the League, a twice-monthly event of the Oak Ridge League of Women Voters.

The luncheon at Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church, 1500 Oak Ridge Turnpike, begins at 11:45 a.m. Lunch is available on a first-come, first-served basis for $6.

The program starts at noon.

Lillard was elected state treasurer in January 2009.

He is an attorney who earned a Master of Laws in Taxation from the University of Florida in 1983.
