  • Rockwood Ministerial Association is asking for a donation of a freezer to store food for a new program with Second Harvest Food Bank.

    The program, Kids Café, offers free dinners to children from 5:30 to 7 p.m. each Wednesday in Rockwood Housing Authority’s community room at Evans Heights at 320 W. Carpenter St.

    Due to the passage of the Road Improvement Program, Roane County expected to receive a little more than $228,000 in additional funds for its highway maintenance budget. The additional funds result from a provision in the state bill which calls for 1 cent of the 4-cent gas tax increase to go directly to local governments.

  • Mike Franks fans will be happy to hear he is back on the scene.

    Rhonda Boudreaux  of Trost Moving Pictures Publicity cited sources at Entertainment Weekly who said Harriman’s Muse Watson will officially reprise his role as Franks on the CBS’ prime-time drama “NCIS” on May 10.

    Watson, who shot to fame in his role in “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” has recurred as Mike Franks on “NCIS” since season 3.

  • Karen McBrayer tries to put Little Ann at ease during Roane County Humane Society’s recent rabies vaccination clinic in Planned Pet-Hood. McBrayer’s husband, Dr. Jesse McBrayer, is Planned Pet-Hood’s veterinarian.
     

  • Frankie Lovella Wise Moore recently celebrated her 100th birthday with more than 40 relatives and friends at Wood
    Village Home, Sweetwater.

    Celebrating the occasion with her are four generations of her family, including, front from left, great-grandsons Ryan Bailey and Marvin "Tony" Bailey; and back row, son-in-law Kenneth Melton, daughter Hazel Moore Melton, granddaughter Juanita Melton Bailey and grandson-in-law Marvin Bailey.

  • Del and Debra Byrd of Knoxville announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Lauren Byrd, to Matthew Garner.

    He is the son of Bobby and Susan Garner of Kingston.

    The ceremony will be at 6:30 p.m. June 19 on the beach in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

    A July reception is planned in Bethel Presbyterian Church, Kingston.

    The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Byrd of Knoxville and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Chilcoat of Knoxville.

  • Crystal E. Couch and Robert W. Couch, both of Rockwood, announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Miranda LaShelle Couch, to Jonathan Harry Chapman.

    He is the son of Sonny and Lorrie Chapman of Montrose, Mich.

    The ceremony will be on June 18 at Cornerstone Church, Knoxville.

    The bride is the granddaughter of Robert and Beverly Scofield.

    He is the son of Shannon and Martha Robinson of Midtown.

    The ceremony will be on May 21 in Heritage Fellowship Church, Oak Ridge.

    The bride-elect is the granddaughter of L.K. and Martha Barding of Kingston and Richard and Jean DeBell of Florence, Ky.

    The prospective groom’s grandparents are Henry and LuluBelle Robinson and Rose Green, all of Midtown, and the late Bruce Green.
