Two “In God We Trust” plaques have been installed at the Roane County Courthouse. Another is expected to go up in the General Sessions Courtroom soon. The plaques were purchased through private donations.

The exterior “In God We Trust” plaques the Roane County Commission approved last year have been installed at the courthouse.

One is over the parking lot entrance. The other is over the doors on the Race Street side of the courthouse.

The plaques were installed last weekend.

The commission approved the “In God We Trust” plaques last July. It wasn’t without controversy, however.

Commissioner Randy Ellis was accused of playing politics by some of his fellow commissioners.
