Schools will be able to hire

Roane County Schools has positions that need filling for the 2015-16 school year. With the start less than two-and-a-half months away, the Roane County Board of Education voted 7-0 to lift the hiring freeze for essential positions during a special-called meeting on Wednesday.

The freeze was put in place earlier this year because of the school system’s budget crisis. The crisis has not been solved, but Director of Schools Gary Aytes said some of the job openings are critical enough that the system needs to start trying to get people in place.
