    Agnes Madge Taylor Kindred

    Agnes Madge Taylor Kindred, 92, of Rockwood, died Monday, Dec. 21, 2009.

    Born June 13, 1917, in Roane County, she was a member of Clymersville Baptist Church, Rockwood. She was a retired Chamberlain Memorial Hospital nurse secretary and a First Families of Tennessee descendant.

    Emma Ruby McCuiston Adwell

    Emma Ruby McCuiston Adwell, 100, of the Ozone community of Rockwood, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009 in The Bridge at Rockwood.

    Born March 15, 1909, in Rockwood, she was the daughter of Fred Alvin and Emma Anna Wassom McCuiston, both of whom preceded her in death. She was of the Presbyterian faith. A Red Cross volunteer during World War II, she knitted a lot of sweaters to go overseas. She also taught canning during the same time in Crab Orchard and worked at K-25 Site, Oak Ridge.

    Ruth Naomi Johnston Curl

    Ruth Naomi Johnston Curl, 91, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, Dec. 18, 2009, in NHC Place, Farragut.

    Born Jan. 9, 1918, in Harriman, she was the daughter of Henry Wilson Johnston and Martha Anne Hart Johnston, both of whom preceded her in death. An active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Oak Ridge, for many years, she was a certified public secretary who worked for Philip Baker at Union Carbide Corp. at Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s Nuclear Division. She retired in 1982 after 26 years of service.

    Edward L. Devaney Sr.

    Edward L. Devaney Sr., 93, of Harriman, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, at the Harriman home of his grandson.

    A born-again Christian and U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was retired from Harriman Utility Board after serving 34 years as an electrical lineman. He was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 760 and a lifelong farmer.

    Gary W. Ward, 41, of Kingston, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009.

    He attended Southwest Baptist Church, Kingston.

    He was preceded in death by mother, Brenda Sue Ward.

    Survivors include daughter, Brittany Ward of Canton, N.C.; son, Garett Ward of Canton; father, William Ward of Kingston; brother, Steve Ward of Sharpsburg, Ga.; numerous aunts and cousins.

    Clara Helen Abston Wheeler, 71, of  Rockwood, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, at her home.

    Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene Medzie and Darren Lawson of Rockwood, Rhonda Deal of Virginia Beach, Va., and Renee and Junior Hart of Harriman; sons and daughter-in-law, Michael and Karen Taylor of Ohio and Jack May of Knoxville; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Irene Douglas of Cummings, Ga., and Delores Sudol of Ohio; and brothers, John Henry Abston of Georgia and Don Abston of Arizona.

    Violet Payne Carson, 92, of Rockwood, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, in The Bridge at Rockwood.

    Born June 29, 1917, in Litton, Tenn., she was a retired factory worker who enjoyed reading and spending time with family and friends.

    She was preceded in death by parents, William Ernest and Mary Martha Mae Tollett Kerley; her husbands, Richard Payne and James Carson; brothers, Ray Kerley, Roger Kerley, Bud Kerley, Toy Kerley and Gordon Kerley; grandchild, Steve Hall; and great-grandchild, Nora Starks.
