    James Richard Barker

    James Richard Barker, 66, formerly of Harriman, died unexpectedly Saturday, March 1, 2008, in the Republic of Pohnpei Federated States of Micronesia in the South Pacific.

    He was a graduate of Harriman High School and East Tennessee State University.

    He was preceded in death by parents, Jim and Connie Barker.

    Survivors include his wife, Nopulo of Pohnpei; sons, Shane and Jimmy of Dunn, N.C.; daughters, Sheila of Olympia, Wash., and Sherri of Pohnpei; sister, Sheila Barker Thompson of Havre de Grace, Md.; and eight grandchildren.

    Mamie Floyd Liggett

    Mamie Floyd Liggett, 95, of Kingston, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008.

    A devout Christian who was known by many as "Mother Liggett,” or “Miss Mamie," she was a faithful overseer of Kingston Church of God in Kingston, which she helped establish more than 50 years ago with her late husband.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Gilbert Liggett; mother, Georgia Callahan; father, Bob Callahan; daughters, Elizabeth Henry and Dorothy Ross; and son, Arthur Tate.

    Leon Wesley, 74, of Oakdale, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008, in Methodist Medical Center, Oak Ridge.

    Born May 23, 1933, in Ansel, Ky., he moved to Tennessee in 1965. He was a longtime member of Pine Orchard Baptist Church, Oakdale. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend who was employed with Morgan County Recycling Center and was retired from the construction industry.

    Howard Wayne Phillips

    Howard Wayne Phillips, 83, of Kingston, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, in Roane Medical Center, Harriman.

    A member of Kingston First Baptist Church, he was retired from Union Carbide with 40 years of service. He loved sports, especially basketball, playing golf and fishing. His real joy was singing gospel music. He was a member of the Enthusiastics Band, which won the Tennessee Volunteer Award and performed at nursing homes, churches and various other charity functions.

    James Ruben Cooley

    James Ruben Cooley, 52, of Oliver Springs, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008, at his home.

    Born April 18, 1955, in Dayton, Ohio, he had lived in Oliver Springs since 1984. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War who had 12 years of military service in various locations, including Germany and Honduras. He was a disabled diesel mechanic who had been employed with both Buddy Gregg Motor Homes and Truck Stops of America.
