Mess lands woman behind bars

Litigation over a property littered with debris landed an elderly Roane County woman in jail.

Helen Hayes was arrested on an attachment issued in the case.

Hayes, 67, owns property at 1812 Bluff Road. In 2015, the Roane County Commission voted to have County Attorney Greg Leffew file a lawsuit against her in Chancery Court for “continually allowing conditions of overgrown vegetation/accumulated debris,” on her property.

According to court records, Hayes was ordered to bring her property into compliance and failed to do so.
