Roane State Community College’s Tennessee Small Business Development Center and the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce will offer a free workshop for small business owners and entrepreneurs who want a better understanding of starting a new business.
The workshop will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 25 in Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce offices at 1400 Oak Ridge Turnpike.

Mitchell Kyker, vice president of Kyker Funeral Homes, was one of 50 funeral directors nationwide selected to participate in the National Funeral Directors Association’s Meet the Mentors program.

Meet the Mentors, supported by the Funeral Service Foundation, took place March 18-19 in the Emory Conference Center Hotel on the campus of Emory University in Atlanta.

It brought together young funeral professionals to learn from three of the country’s leading funeral directors and network with like-minded peers.

When I was about 12 years old, my parents and I went to eat at my favorite cousins’ house. Both boys were older than me, like big brothers. They were Eagle Scouts, and it was fun being with them.

Their mother, Aunt Lois Stephens, was the head cook for the schools in Livingston and an excellent cook herself. We all looked forward to eating with them. I have several of her recipes.

A technology being developed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory promises to provide clear images of the brains of children, the elderly and people with Parkinson's and other diseases without the use of uncomfortable or intrusive restraints.

Awake imaging provides motion compensation reconstruction, which removes blur caused by motion and allows physicians to get a transparent picture of the brain without anesthetics that can mask conditions and alter results.
