Tennessee has changed unemployment laws that allow a spouse of military personnel facing a military transfer to collect unemployment benefits if they quit their job.

In most cases, voluntarily quitting a job makes an applicant ineligible for unemployment benefits.

“This expansion of eligibility for unemployment is the right thing to do in supporting Tennessee’s military families whom are often affected by military transfers,” said Tennessee Commissioner of Labor and Workforce Development Karla Davis.

The IRS has some basic federal tax information and matters of consideration for individuals planning to open a business. They include:
• Type of business. The most common types of businesses are sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation, S corporation and limited liability company. The type of business determines which tax forms to file.
• Types of taxes. The four general types of business taxes are income, self-employment, employment and excise tax.

Cassandra Miles, a former teller at Citizens National Bank’s Kingston office, has been promoted to banking officer at the Oak Ridge office.

Miles’ promotion was among those recently announced by Citizens National Bank President Jack B. Allen.

Miles has been with Citizens National Bank for nine years and was a teller at the Kingston office for eight and a half years before transferring to the Oak Ridge branch.
