During the four years I have been writing “Out to Lunch,” I couldn’t remember any waterfront (shoreline) locations in Decatur. There is a bunch on River Road, which is also part of Meigs County.

Karen Feltner, director of Roane State Community College’s Health Information Technology program, received a 2011-12 Mentor/Educator Award from the Tennessee Health Information Management Association.

According to the association, the award “recognizes individuals who have long records of encouraging students or colleagues to become all they can be and who have helped them find ways to achieve their best.”

Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam signed legislation last week to expand the state’s FastTrack program to specifically support economic development in rural communities and for exceptional projects.

The governor proposed the legislation in January to create the FastTrack Economic Development Fund, an expansion of the state Department of Economic and Community Development’s current infrastructure and job training program.

Dane Kable, known as CB Man, recently emailed me about a new restaurant opening in Westel at exit 338 off Interstate 40.

You’ve probably noticed, in view from the interstate at Westel, all the motor homes at the Boat-N-RV Superstore that began developing in 2008.

Mountain Top Inn opened in late February as an addition to Boat-N-RV. It faces the interstate, on the left as you travel toward Nashville from Roane County.
