 URS | CH2M Oak Ridge (UCOR) is in the midst of offsite shipments of soils excavated from around an underground waste tank at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

This removal action is being performed under the Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act and will eliminate a known source of contaminants being released to the groundwater.

The action includes excavation of Tank W-1A and 355 cubic yards of soil and associated secondary waste. The soils are being packaged in lead-lined boxes and shipped off site for disposal.

One morning as we left the Roane State Fitness Center, Jim and Mae Grasham told me I needed to write an “Out to Lunch” article on the Cookie Jar Café.

“We went last week with two other couples, and the food was really good,” Jim said. “Be sure to save room for the homemade coconut cream pie.”

Roane State Community College has received a $1.64 million grant that will fund several initiatives designed to promote the growth of the composites industry in East Tennessee.

The college was awarded the grant as part of President Obama’s $37 million Jobs and Innovation Accelerator Challenge, a multi-agency competition to support the advancement of 20 high-growth, regional industry clusters.

“The college is very excited to receive this grant,” Roane State President Gary Goff said.

Jennifer Trentham was recently cited as ORNL Federal Credit Union’s 2010 Employee of the Year.

Trentham, of Oliver Springs, is the credit union’s training manager.

She was selected from among the four individuals chosen as Employee of the Quarter throughout the year. Trentham was also named Employee of the Fourth-Quarter.

“She embodies the values and spirit of ORNL Federal Credit Union and consistently strives to deliver service excellence to her co-workers and credit union members,” one nomination said.
