“Breaking the Code: How the Federal Budget Process Works” will be the program topic for the East Tennessee Chapter of the National Contract Management Association monthly luncheon.
Judith Penry, chief financial officer for the U.S. Department of Energy in Oak Ridge, will be the guest speaker.
The luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 5 in Oak Ridge Double Tree Hotel. Lunch for members is $15; non-members pay $16.

While working on an “Out to Lunch” article at a Rockwood restaurant, Jonathan Johnson, a U.S. Food Service salesman, asked me if I knew about a new restaurant in Oliver Springs.

“Picante Mexican Grill has just opened in the previous location of Choice’s Café,” he said. I wrote about Choice’s in October 2008.

The Joint Commission recently named Roane Medical Center as one of the nation’s top performers on key quality measures.

The Harriman hospital was the only Knoxville-area hospital to receive the prestigious recognition.

More than 3,000 hospitals submitted accountability measure data to the Joint Commission, and Roane Medical Center is one of only 405 U.S. hospitals and critical-care hospitals to earn the distinction of top performer on key quality measures for attaining and sustaining excellence of accountability performance.  

Fresenius Medical Care of Harriman, at 1662 Roane State Hwy., has been named a Center of Excellence for achieving high  standards in patient care in 2010.

The award, presented by Fresenius Medical Care North America, one of the nation’s leading network of dialysis facilities, recognizes facilities that perform the best, based on multiple objective measures of dialysis clinical quality.
