Scott Fitzgerald, Philadelphia, is a new member of the American Angus Association.

The national breed organization, headquartered in St.
Joseph, Mo., has nearly 30,000 active adult and junior members.

It is among the largest beef breed associations in the world. Its computerized records include detailed information on nearly 19 million registered Angus.

The association records ancestral information, keeps production records on individual animals, and develops industry-leading selection tools for its members.

I asked Spring City resident and Harriman Fowler’s Furniture salesman Jerry Lyke about the restaurant at Spring City Marina.

“It’s almost across the street from my house,” he said. “My wife, Pam, and I enjoy walking down for lunch. We’ve tried a bunch of things, and they were all good.”

Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development statistics released last month indicate that Roane County’s unemployment rate dropped by 0.1 percent in May.
The 8.3 percent rate, however, is half a percent higher than last year, when the state reported the county’s jobless rate at 7.8 percent.
A state ranking of the 10 counties with the lowest unemployment rates no longer includes Roane County, although both Washington and Cheatham counties, respectively in the No. 9 and 10 slots, also report an 8.3 percent May jobless rate.

The name change became effective July 1. Branch Manager Rhonda Badger said it will not impact the products and services customers have come to know and appreciate.
“We’ll continue to work with each customer, one-on-one, to find a loan option that’s right for them and be here when they need us,” she said. “The new name better fits who we are and what we do.”
