Shooter ‘was trying to draw fire’

The man accused of shooting at Harriman police responding to a domestic violence call earlier this year is believed to have been trying to commit suicide by cop.

District Attorney General Russell Johnson said evidence, including suspect Nathan Manis’ own statements and those of witnesses, indicated this was the case in the March 8 incident.

“Mr. Manis was coming out of the door and down the stairs when he encountered the officers,” Johnson said Thursday.

“He had a handgun and started shooting.
