Roane County Commissioner Mike Hooks, left, speaks with Board of Education Member Vic King following the Feb. 16 Board of Education meeting. The board voted 7-3 at the meeting to build one new high school for the county. The Commission will need to approve funding for the plan to go forward.
Fewer schools, more choices?

Since the Roane County Board of Education doesn’t have the money to build a massive new high school, it will need the County Commission to pass a plan to cover the funding.

There is no guarantee that will happen.

“I personally do not think one high school would work,” District 1 Commissioner Darryl Meadows said. “Maybe on paper, but not necessarily reality. There’s too much travel time and too many natural barriers, such as rivers.”
