Harriman High School student Randy Lunsford was among 36 students who was chosen for a five-week summer opportunity to get insight into what the college experience is like.

Lunsford and the other students were part of the Governor’s School for Information Technology Leadership at Tennessee Tech University.

Throughout their time at Tech, the students lived in dorms, took two college classes and were taught how to write a business plan.

School in Roane County will begin Aug. 13, with a half day for students and a full day for faculty and staff.

Parents and students are preparing for the new school year by buying school supplies and replacing outgrown clothes.

Teachers have been participating in training sessions to keep pace with a rapidly changing curriculum and standards. Principals and maintenance staffs are scrutinizing buildings to make certain everything will be ready for students to walk through the doors.

Two Tusculum College students from Kingston were awarded their degrees during spring commencement.

Amber K. Collins graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in organizational management with
a concentration in financial management.

Students graduating with a 3.75-3.94 grade-point average received magna cum laude honors.

Collins was a member of the Omicron-Psi National Honor Society.

A number of Middle Tennessee State University students from Roane County were named to the dean’s list for spring semester.

Kingston — Emilie A. Aslinger, Benjamin Scott Creekmore, Molly Amber Jones, Dylan Maclean Leitnaker, Callie Mergen, Mark A. Patterson, Cassandra Michelle Piper, Colby Alexander Roberts, Briana N. Tapp and Elizabeth Lacey Theiss.
