Chelsea Martin of Kingston recently graduated from the University of Rochester.

Martin, who graduated cum laude, was awarded a bachelor’s degree in language and linguistics and Japanese.

Daughter of Katherine and Melvin Martin, she is a graduate of Webb School of Knoxville.

The University of Rochester is a private research university in Rochester, N.Y.

Ridge View Elementary School’s six fifth-grade classes took a recent action-packed and memorable excursion to the state capital.

Two chartered buses took the group of students and teachers to Nashville, where they met with state Sen. Ken Yager and toured the Tennessee State Capitol.

The students at the Rockwood school also visited the Tennessee State Museum and had lunch at the Bicentennial Park.

The first floor of the library at Roane State Community College’s Roane County campus will reopen on July 12 following a renovation project to replace the ceiling and lighting.

Until then, all library guests are asked to continue to enter the library from a second-story entrance near the front of the building. Directional signs are posted.

Community members do not have access to library computers during the renovation project because most computers are on the first floor.
