    Students from Roane County are the 2011 Seventh-Grade Division Winners for Eastern Region 4-H Clover Bowl.

  • Gunter recipient of Rockwood 2000 gift

    Kiley Gunter is the 2011 recipient of the Rockwood 2000 scholarship.  

    Gunter was ranked third in her graduating class at Rockwood High School.

    “Kiley was selected as the winner based on her academic achievements, community involvement and her leadership abilities,” said Sandy McIntosh, a member of Rockwood 2000.

    “As she begins her college years, Rockwood 2000 is proud to assist her in furthering her academic goals,” McIntosh continued.

  • Roane State honors students’ successes

    Numerous Roane State Community College students from Roane County recently received recognition for their achievements in the 2010-11 school year.

    They include:

    Harrriman — Zach Basler, Roane County Retired Teachers Award; Phillip James, Academic Achievement Award; Bradley J. Reid, Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges; Gary Waldron, Outstanding Health Information Technology Student; and Breanna Nicole Wright, Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges.

  • 11 from Roane take part in ’11 Girls State

    Eleven Roane County rising high school seniors are among the 525 outstanding students who participated in the American Legion Auxiliary's 65th session of Volunteer Girls State.

    This year’s session was May 29-June 4 on the campus of Lipscomb University.

    Delegates to the program are selected from high schools across the state based on their academic and leadership potential.

  • Calvary students tops in fine arts

    Calvary Baptist School in King-ston had a number of students who won individual and group honors during the Tennessee Fine Arts Competition in Murfreesboro.

    Students advanced to the state competition after winning first- and second-place honors during the District Fine Arts Competition in Powell.

    State winners from Calvary Baptist School include:

    First place

    • Junior High Small Vocal Ensemble, first in district.

  • Powell recipient of Tech scholarship

    Michele Powell of Roane County is among the Tennessee Technological University students who received honors during the 36th annual College of Business Scholarships and Awards Banquet.

    Powell, a senior accounting major, is the recipient of the Sam Looper Scholarship.

    One hundred twenty-nine students received scholarships of almost $143,000.

    “We are proud of this outstanding group of students,” said James Jordan-Wagner, dean of the College of Business.

  • RHS Classmates scholarship awarded to Breazeale

    Rockwood High School senior Allison Breazeale accepts the presentation of the RHS Classmates’ $1,000 scholarship from Mary Kau, vice president of the group.

    Breazeale is the daughter of Billy and Karen Breazeale of the Westel community in Cumberland County.

  • Bethel University dean's list

    Aaron Craig of Kingston earned dean’s list honors at Bethel University during spring semester.  

    To qualify for the dean’s list, a traditional student must have completed 12 or more academic hours simultaneously with a grade-point average of 3.50 to 3.69 with no grade below a ”C.”

    Bethel University is headquartered in McKenzie, Tenn.
