Roane County will be well represented at the Southern Appalachia Regional Spelling Bee on Saturday.

The bee starts at 9:30 a.m. at the University of Tennessee’s Alumni Memorial Building.

The Roane students participating are Carly Brown, Harriman Middle; Nathan Byers, Ridge View Elementary; Henry B. Coen, Kingston Elementary; Matthew Charles, Dyllis Elementary.

Midway High School was among the 13 area schools Y-12 National Security Complex engineers visited to mark last week’s  National Engineers Week.

The engineers discussed engineering fields and provided a fun but challenging engineering project to students.

The students in Jared Phy’s agriculture class also used the opportunity to observe National FFA Week.

Gov. Bill Haslam and the Tennessee Department of Education encourages educators to participate in the TELL Tennessee Survey.

The TELL — or Teaching, Empowering, Leading, and Learning — survey is the first statewide opportunity for teachers and licensed staff in Tennessee to provide input on their learning environment.

The survey continues through March 11.

School-based licensed educators may anonymously and voluntarily share their perceptions of the teaching and learning environment in their school.

Bowers Elementary School, Harriman, will have its first-ever 5K Run and Walk for Education next weekend.

The Bowers PTO fundraiser will be on March 12 on the school campus at 120 Breazeale St.

Registration begins at 8 a.m.; the run and walk start at 9.
