    A number of Tennessee Technological University students from Roane County earned placement on the dean’s list for fall semester.

    They include:

  • Schools lovin’ it on McTeachers Nights

    Dyllis Springs Elementary School and Ridge View Elementary School recently were awarded funds by area McDonald's Restaurants from proceeds of their McTeachers Night.

    Each school received 20 percent of money generated from sales from 5 to 8 p.m. during its McTeachers Night.

    Dyllis Springs had its McTeachers Night at Kingston McDonald's. Ridge View's was at Rockwood McDonald's

  • ‘There Ought to Be a Law ...’ Video contest open to area students

    Tennessee Bar Association’s fourth annual YouTube Video Contest is underway encourage middle- and high-school students to explore how laws are made, amended and repealed.

    The contest, “There Ought to be a Law,” challenges students to create a three-minute video that discusses an issue they would like to see addressed through the legislative process.

  • Austin Peay State University graduates: Fall 2013

    Alicia R. Hundley of Rockwood received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree during Austin Peay State University’s winter commencement ceremony.

    Austin Peay is in Clarksville.

    Nine East Tennessee State University students from Roane County earned placement on the dean’s list for fall semester.

    Kingston — Kezia R. Hensley, Kendra B. Martin, Erika B. Smith and Danielle S. Vittatoe.

    Rockwood — Allison M. Breazeale and Sarah E. Pelley.

  • King University honors: Fall 2013

    A number of students from Roane County in traditional and professional studies received King University academic honors for fall semester.

    They include:

    Harriman — Sherri Melissa Kinney, Tonya Suzette McCarroll, Gina LeAnn Noll and Anna Marie Tull.

    Kingston — Keith Edward Brown, John Richard Carter, Shannon Leann Crawley, Gwendolin Burneice Mullins, Babbet Jean Risner and Jonni Rhea Wood.

    Oliver Springs — Amanda Nicole Hill, Michael Henry Jones and Krista Susanne Whaley.

  • Milligan College graduates: Fall 2013

    Kingston’s Jeremy Woody was awarded a degree from Milligan College.

    Woody earned a master’s degree in occupational therapy.

    Milligan College is near Elizabethton in Northeast Tennessee.

  • Tennessee Wesleyan College honors: Fall 2013

    The more than 300 students earning placement on Tennessee Wesleyan College’s fall honors and dean’s lists included seven from Roane County.

    To be eligible for the honors list, a student must earn 12 or more non-remedial hours and attain a grade point average of at least 3.7 with no grade below B.

    They included Deanna Allen and Katelyn Harvey, both of Oliver Springs; Lindsay Arndts of Ten Mile; Kayla Evans of Rockwood; and Shanon Friauf of Harriman.

  • Tusculum College graduates: Fall 2013

    Four Tusculum College students from Roane County were among the Greeneville institution’s 276 recent graduates.

    Earning Master of Business Administration degrees were Amber K. Collins of Kingston and Christopher W. Lawson of Oliver Springs.

    Both are members of the Omicron-Psi National Honor Society.

    Members of Omicron-Psi are selected from students in master degree programs with grade-point averages of 3.5 or better.

    Preston E. Daniels of Kingston earned a bacehlor’s degree in business administration.
