  • Ridge View fifth grade dominates in math challenge

    Ridge View Elementary School fifth-graders in Cathy Kimball’s math class are excelling in their subject as they participate in Mr. Nussbaum’s Great American Multiplication Challenge.

    Class members have completed in excess of 216,468 multiplication facts as part of the challenge.

    The students can complete their multiplication facts at home, or in the classroom before school.

    Students going to school early to work on their Math Challenge Facts is commonplace in Kimball’s class.

  • Cherokee Middle’s Nutcracker alumni

    Cherokee Middle School students and staff who performed in Arts in Motion’s annual production of “The Nutcracker” over the holiday season include, in no particular order, Aubrey Anderson, Halle Strahan, Caleb Wright, Katherine Burton, Jenna Stewart. Erika Rogers, Mandy King, Kayla Anderson, Lexi Bishop, Principal Elizabeth Rose and Michele MacKeown.

  • Middle Tennessee State University dean's list: Fall 2013

    A number of Tennessee Technological University students from Roane County earned placement on the dean’s list for fall semester.

  • Schools lovin’ it on McTeachers Nights

    Dyllis Springs Elementary School and Ridge View Elementary School recently were awarded funds by area McDonald's Restaurants from proceeds of their McTeachers Night.

    Each school received 20 percent of money generated from sales from 5 to 8 p.m. during its McTeachers Night.

    Dyllis Springs had its McTeachers Night at Kingston McDonald's. Ridge View's was at Rockwood McDonald's

  • ‘There Ought to Be a Law ...’ Video contest open to area students

    Tennessee Bar Association’s fourth annual YouTube Video Contest is underway encourage middle- and high-school students to explore how laws are made, amended and repealed.

    The contest, “There Ought to be a Law,” challenges students to create a three-minute video that discusses an issue they would like to see addressed through the legislative process.

  • Austin Peay State University graduates: Fall 2013

    Alicia R. Hundley of Rockwood received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree during Austin Peay State University’s winter commencement ceremony.

    Austin Peay is in Clarksville.

  • Milligan College graduates: Fall 2013

    Kingston’s Jeremy Woody was awarded a degree from Milligan College.

    Woody earned a master’s degree in occupational therapy.

    Milligan College is near Elizabethton in Northeast Tennessee.
