  • Two indicted on child rape charges

    Martin Lee Thomas, 66, faces five counts of child rape.

    He was indicted by the Roane County grand jury on June 18.

    Roane County Sheriff’s Deputy Vianney Del Toro arrested Thomas at his home on Saturday.

    According to the indictment, the alleged rapes occurred between Jan. 1, 2009, and April 1, 2012.

    The alleged victim was younger than 13 years old.

    Jail and court records listed Thomas’ address as 241 Harvey Road, Kingston.

    He was granted a medical furlough on Monday.

  • Newly appointed police chief has big plans for Rockwood lawmen

    Danny Wright may not be sworn in as Rockwood’s new police chief until July 1, but he already has a lot in mind for the department.

    He recently met with the city’s officers and gave them some idea of what is to come.

    He explained what he has planned to Rockwood City Council recently as well.

    “It is not a job; it is not an occupation,” Wright said of police work.

    “It is a profession.”

  • THP sobriety, safety checkpoints slated

    The Tennessee Highway Patrol is planning to conduct sobriety, driver’s license and seat belt roadside safety checkpoints on Roane County roads in March.

    A sobriety roadside safety checkpoint is planned for the week of March 8 on Hwy. 58 at the new bridge in Kingston.

    Impaired driving is a serious crime that kills more than 16,000 people and injures 305,000 others every year in the United States, said a release from the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

  • THP sobriety, safety checkpoints slated

    The Tennessee Highway Patrol is planning to conduct sobriety, driver’s license and seat belt roadside safety checkpoints on Roane County roads in February.

    A driver’s license safety checkpoint is planned during the week of Feb. 1 on Pansy Hill Road at Swan Pond Road, Harriman.

    Another checkpoint will be during the week of Feb. 15 on Fiske Heights Road near the railroad tracks in Harriman

  • THP to conduct sobriety checks in Roane County

    The Tennessee Highway Patrol will conduct a sobriety roadside safety checkpoint during the week of Nov. 9 on Hwy. 27 at Tyler Pointe shopping center in Roane County.

  • THP checkpoints slated in Roane

    The Tennessee Highway Patrol is planning to conduct a number of checkpoints on Roane County roads over the next several weeks.

    Troopers will conduct a safety belt checkpoint from 10 to 11 a.m. Oct. 31 at the Interstate

    40 westbound 340-mile-marker off-ramp.

    Two driver’s license roadside safety checkpoints are planned. The first will be during the week of Sept. 28 at Pansy Hill and Swan Pond roads.

    The second one will be during the week of Oct. 5 on Hwy. 27 at Industrial Park Drive.

    The second one will be during the week of Sept. 14 on Fiske Heights Road east of the railroad tracks.

    A sobriety roadside checkpoint is planned for the week of Sept. 21 at Pansy Hill and Swan Pond roads.

    The Tennessee Highway Patrol is planning to conduct a couple of sobriety checkpoints on Roane County roads in August.

    A sobriety roadside checkpoint is planned for the week of Aug. 24 on Hwy. 58 at the new bridge.

    The second sobriety roadside checkpoint will be on the week of Aug. 31 on Hwy. 70 at Caney Creek Road.

    The Tennessee Highway Patrol is planning to conduct driver license and sobriety checkpoints on Roane County roads in late July and through August.

    A driver license roadside safety checkpoint will be the week of July 27 on Pansy Hill Road at Swan Pond Road.

    Another driver license roadside safety checkpoint will be the week of Aug. 10 on Fiske Heights Road east of the railroad tracks.

    Sobriety roadside safety checkpoints are planned for late August.

    The first will be the week of Aug. 24 on Hwy. 70 at Swan Pond Road.

  • THP license, seat belt checkpoints slated

    The Tennessee Highway Patrol is planning to conduct driver’s license and safety belt roadside checkpoints the week of June 29 in Roane County.

    A driver license roadside safety checkpoint will be on Hwy. 70 at Caney Creek Road.

    The safety belt roadside checkpoint will be on Interstate 40 westbound at the 340-mile-marker offramp.

    During the driver license checkpoint, troopers will concentrate their efforts on vehicles operated by drivers who violate the driver license laws of Tennessee.
