  • THP to conduct license checks in Roane Co.

    The Tennessee Highway Patrol will conduct two driver license roadside safety checkpoints during January in Roane County.

    The first checkpoint will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Jan. 6 at Hwy. 70 and Poland Hollow Road.

    Another checkpoint will be on Jan. 13 on Pansy Hill Road near Swan Pond Road.

    Recognizing the danger presented to the public by unqualified drivers, troopers will concentrate their efforts on vehicles being operated by drivers who would violate the driver license laws of Tennessee.

    — Artaveus Demetriece Dawson, 27, 911 Clifty St., Harriman: resisting arrest, evading arrest, driving on revoked/suspended license, theft $500 or less, three counts violation of probation. Total bond $20,000; court date Feb. 13, 2012.

  • Pursuit ends with arrest of man who tried to run over Oak Ridge officer

    A 27-year-old man who allegedly tried to run over an Oak Ridge police officer was arrested on Dec. 20.

    According to a Roane County Sheriff’s Office incident report, Oak Ridge police were in pursuit of a Mazda 626, but lost track of the vehicle near the Kingston city limits.

    A sheriff’s deputy noticed the vehicle while on patrol in Midtown.

    “Oak Ridge advised they had charges on the driver for trying to run over one of their officers,” the report said.

  • Woman gets dose of pepper spray

    Rockwood police used pepper spray on a woman on Dec. 18 for not complying with orders, according to a report.

    Jena Lynn Davidson, 30, was charged with DUI, violation of implied consent law, resisting arrest and evading arrest. The report said she also had an outstanding warrant for violation of probation.

    The report said Davidson was hiding in some woods when she was ordered to show her hands.

  • Alleged huffer nabbed after leading chase

    A Knoxville man who reportedly led Rockwood police on a chase on Dec. 21 is facing several charges.

    Taylor Lee Helton, of 1651 Chenoweth Road, Knoxville, was charged with evading arrest, DUI, reckless endangerment, driving on a revoked license, aggravated assault on a police officer and inhaling aerosol.

    Rockwood Police Chief Bill Stinnett said the officers involved in the pursuit were OK.

    Rockwood police said they had to use a TASER to get a 24-year-old man to comply with commands on Dec. 19.
