  • THP to conduct license checks in May

    The Tennessee Highway Patrol will be conducting two driver license roadside safety checkpoints during May in Roane County.

    A  checkpoint is planned from 10 to 11 a.m. May 6 near the new bridge on Hwy. 58.

    Another checkpoint, from 9 to 10 p.m. May 20, will be at Hwy. 70 and Poland Hollow Road.

    Recognizing the danger presented to the public by unqualified drivers, troopers will concentrate their efforts on vehicles being operated by drivers who would violate the driver license laws of Tennessee.

  • THP to conduct sobriety check in Roane County

    The Tennessee Highway Patrol will conduct a sobriety roadside safety checkpoint on April 29 on Hwy. 27 at the Roane and Rhea County lines.

    Recognizing the danger presented to the public by intoxicated drivers, Troopers will concentrate their efforts on vehicles being operated by intoxicated drivers. The Tennessee Highway Patrol has found these sobriety checkpoints to be an effective means of enforcing DUI laws of Tennessee while ensuring the protection of all motorists.

  • Apply for academy by April 18

    Harriman Police Department will have its third Citizens Academy beginning May 10.

    Harriman Police Chief Randy Heidle said he wants interested applicants to apply by April 18 so that background checks can be completed.

    The free eight-week class will meet at 6 p.m. each Tuesday at the Harriman Police Department.

    It includes information on police procedures, handgun handling and K-9 handling.

    The academy will culminate in a ride-along with a police officer at the final class.

    The Tennessee Highway Patrol will conduct two driver license roadside safety checkpoints in April.

    The first will be from  9 to 10 a.m. April 8 at Hwy. 70 at Poland Hollow Road.

    Troopers will also check driver licenses during a roadside safety checkpoint from noon to 1 p.m. April 15 at Pansy Hill Road near Swan Pond Road.

    The Tennessee Highway Patrol will be conducting two driver license roadside safety checkpoints in Roane County this month.

    The first checkpoint will be from 5 to 6 p.m. March 4 on Hwy. 29 (Pine Ridge Road).

    Another one is planned from 9 to 10 a.m. March 11 on Fisk Heights Road.

  • Sheriff’s office gives residents easy access to Roane offender information

    Roane County residents now have fast access to custody information on county jail offenders, thanks to the Tennessee Sheriffs’ Association and annual funding from the state of Tennessee throughout 78 counties.

    Roane County Sheriff Jack Stockton has joined and launched TNSAVIN, an automated service utilizing the Victim Information Notification Everyday system in which citizens can access a 24-hour-a-day notification system either by telephone or the Internet.
