  • THP to conduct sobriety check in Roane County

    The Tennessee Highway Patrol will conduct a sobriety roadside safety checkpoint during the week of Aug. 16 on Fiske Heights Road.

    Impaired driving is a serious crime that kills more than 16,000 people and injures 305,000 others every year in the United States, said a release from the THP.

    During the sobriety roadside safety checkpoint, troopers will evaluate drivers for signs of alcohol or drug impairment.

  • THP to conduct sobriety checks in Roane County

    The Tennessee Highway Patrol will conduct sobriety roadside safety checkpoints in the next couple of weeks in Roane County.

    Both checkpoints will be on Hwy. 384 (Patton Lane) at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

    The first checkpoint will be conducted on the week of June 28.

    Drivers can expect the second checkpoint on the week of July 5.

    The Tennessee Highway Patrol will conduct a driver license roadside safety checkpoint from 6 to 7 p.m. April 19 on Pansy Hill Road near Swan Pond Road.

    Recognizing the danger presented to the public by unqualified drivers, troopers will concentrate their efforts on vehicles being operated by drivers who would violate the driver license laws of Tennessee.

  • Still time to sign up for Citizens Police Academy

    It’s not too late to be part of the Harriman Police Department Citizens Police Academy from April 9-May 28.

    A few spots are still open, and the last day for applications is March 29.

    More information can be obtained by calling Karen Joseph at the police department at 882-3383.

    Classes will be from 6 to 9 p.m. each Tuesday.

    Training will include basic police training information, police policy, a simulated firing range, defensive tactics and self-defense.

    The Tennessee Highway Patrol will conduct three driver license roadside safety checkpoints in March.

    The first will be from 8 to 9 a.m. March 1 on Hwy. 27 at the Morgan County line.

    A second checkpoint will be from 1 to 2 p.m. March 8 on Pine Ridge Road at the railroad tracks.

    The final one will be from 10 to 11 p.m. March 22 on Pansy Hill Road near Swan Pond Road.
