  • Drug Task Force payment part of sentence meted

    From staff reports

A Rockwood man charged with selling cocaine agreed to fork over some money to a fund aimed at helping law enforcement fight the war on drugs.

Harlan Shane Clower was charged in October 2007 on two counts of selling cocaine. He appeared in Roane County Criminal Court on June 27.

“Mr. Clower, do you agree that there are ample facts for you to enter a plea of guilty without having those stated by the attorney general?” Judge Eugene Eblen asked.

  • No shirt, no shoes ... no court? Judge enforcing dress code

Those with a court date before Roane County General Sessions Court Judge Jeff Wicks will soon have to consider what they are wearing more carefully.

Starting July 1, Wicks’ courtroom will have a dress code, something the judge said is an unfortunate result of a few inappropriately attired people.

“This is something that has been brewing for the last couple of years, at least,” he said. “[Like in] so many cases, the actions of a few require rules to be created that affect everyone.”

  • Appellate court upholds Howard conviction

The Court of Criminal Appeals has upheld a judge’s decision to sentence Bryan K. Howard to eight years in prison.

Howard pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide in the death of Bradley K. Lively. He had a blood alcohol level of .10 when he killed Lively in a July 2007 car crash.

Roane County Criminal Court Judge E. Eugene Eblen denied all forms of alternative sentencing when he sentenced
Howard in March of last year.

In his appeal, Howard argued that Eblen erred in denying all forms of alternative sentencing.
