  • Help stock Teachers Supply Closet this year

    Teachers from Roane County Schools stock up annually during the Teachers Supply Closet, and the public is
    encouraged to donate to the cause this year.

    Items frequently needed for classrooms include pencils, pens, staplers and staples, three-hole punchers, crayons, ruled writing paper, hand sanitizer, paper towels, markers, scissors, tape, tissues, glue sticks, sticky note pads, construction paper, rubber bands, folders, Band-Aids, tennis balls, binders, calculators and backpacks.

  • Tusculum College graduates: spring 2012

    Two Tusculum College students from Kingston were awarded their degrees during spring commencement.

    Amber K. Collins graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in organizational management with
    a concentration in financial management.

    Students graduating with a 3.75-3.94 grade-point average received magna cum laude honors.

    Collins was a member of the Omicron-Psi National Honor Society.

  • Pensacola Christian College graduates: spring 2012

    Jennifer Rose Boltin was awarded a bachelor’s degree in Bible with emphasis in general studies during Pensacola Christian College’s recent commencement.

    She is the daughter of Bobby Boltin of Harriman.

    Pensacola Christian College is in Pensacola, Fla.

  • Middle Tennessee State University dean's list: spring 2012

    A number of Middle Tennessee State University students from Roane County were named to the dean’s list for spring semester.

    They include:

    Harriman — Erica Faye Willis Cummings, Anit Shashi Patel, Kimberly Webb and Kelli Nicole Woodell.

    Kingston — Emilie A. Aslinger, Benjamin Scott Creekmore, Molly Amber Jones, Dylan Maclean Leitnaker, Callie Mergen, Mark A. Patterson, Cassandra Michelle Piper, Colby Alexander Roberts, Briana N. Tapp and Elizabeth Lacey Theiss.

  • Hiwassee College dean's list: spring 2012

    Timothy William Watts of Kingston was named to the dean’s list at Hiwassee College for spring semester.

    To be eligible for the dean’s list, a student must carry no less than 12 semester hours with a grade-point average of 3.50-3.99.

    Hiwassee College is in Madisonville.

  • Shelter scholarships awarded to Harriman, Rockwood grads

    The Shelter Insurance Foundation awarded $2,000 scholarships to Thomas Aylor Evans, a graduate of Rockwood High School and Ben Davis, a graduate of Harriman High School.

    Shelter Agent Mark Clem sponsors and partially funds this scholarship.

    Beginning the fall after the their high school graduation, Davis and Evans can direct the scholarship funds toward tuition, fees, or campus housing for any course of study and leading to an academic degree at any accredited college or university.

  • Gym lobby named for ‘Thin Man’ Morton

    Ronnie “Thin Man” Morton, left, is applauded for his 47 years of service to Roane County High School athletics with the reading of a resolution in his honor by former Roane County Director of Schools Toni McGriff and Roane County Board of Education Chairman Sam Cox.

    Morton has also been recognized with the naming of the high school gym lobby in his honor.

    A graduate of Roane County High School, Morton’s contributions to the athletic programs include transportation, film processing, field upkeep and working the concession stand.

  • Students from Roane earn RSCC degrees

    A number of Roane State Community College students from Roane County graduated following the 2011-12 academic year.

    Graduating summa cum laude with a grade-point average of 4.0-3.9 were:

    Harriman — Christina Scarbrough and Breanna Wright.

    Kingston — Tessa Kissick.

    Oliver Springs — Brandon Evans and Sarah Melhorn.

    Rockwood — Sarah Burgess, Chancey Miller and Teresa Roddy.
