  • Rockwood Rotary planning 60th anniversary meeting

    Rockwood Rotary Club is making plans for a meeting to commemorate the club’s 60th anniversary.

    The meeting will start at 6 p.m. Oct. 25 in Victorian Square, Rockwood.

    All former Rockwood Rotarians are invited to attend; reservations are required and may be made by calling either J. Polk Cooley at 354-1432 or Maurice Greif at 354-9857.

    Space is limited; those planning to attend are asked to make reservations early to attend the dinner meeting.

    The Rockwood Rotary Club was chartered  in October 1950.

  • Wheat community homecoming this weekend

    Alumni of Wheat High School and Old Roane College will gather with residents of the former Wheat community this weekend to celebrate their annual homecoming.

    The Oct. 3 service will begin at 11 a.m. in George Jones Church in the former community off Blair Road. John Stair Jr. will give the message.

    A basket lunch will be served at noon.

  • Midway falls in double overtime, 20-14

    After a last second win against Knox Christian last year, the Midway Middle Green Waves lost a close non-conference game Thursday to the Knghts. The Green Waves fell 20-14 in double overtime after the two teams scored three of the game’s five touchdowns in the extra periods.

  • OSMS rolls past Oakdale, 42-8

    The Oliver Springs Middle School Bobcats took care of business against the Oakdale Eagles by a 42-8 margin Thursday night at Oakdale’s Hollis Eble Field. 

  • RMS knocks off Robertsville, 44-14


    The Rockwood Middle School Tigers picked up a key win last week, soundly defeating Robertsville 44-14 and helping hold on to the top spot in the district in the process.

  • Fast start leads Cherokee past Harriman, 34-0

    The Cherokee Yellow Jackets improved their season mark to 6-0 Thursday with a 34-0 victory over Harriman.

    Brian Pankey's squad took control of Thursday's contest early by scoring on all three first half possessions and tacking on another score to begin the third quarter.

  • Archery season under way

    Bowhunters were out in force this past weekend for Tennessee’s 2010 archery deer hunting season, which kicked off on Saturday, Sept. 25.

  • Roane State staffers applauded

    Roane State Community College faculty member Beverly Rogers and staff members Kristi Beason and Peter Souza have been honored for their work.

    Rogers, assistant professor of nursing, received Roane State’s 2010 Sarah Ellen Benroth Award for Outstanding Teaching.

    Beason was named the college’s 2010 outstanding support staff member. She is an administrative assistant.

    Souza, director of networking and technical support, was named the 2010 administrative staff member of the year.

  • NPCA certifies Barger & Sons' Roane operation

    C.R. Barger & Sons Inc. of Roane County has been awarded status as a National Precast Concrete Association-certified plant.

    The designation recognizes the company, which operates in Roane Regional Business and Technology Park, as a precast concrete manufacturing plant operating at the highest standards of production and quality control.

    NPCA established the certification program in 1987 to ensure a consistent industry benchmark and a high degree of excellence among precast operations.
