  • Roane State fees due Jan. 5

    Registration for Roane State Community College’s spring semester is under way.

    For students who register on or before Jan 5, fees are due by Jan. 5 at 4:30 p.m. to avoid deletion of their class schedule.

    Students can pay fees at www.roanestate.edu.

    Payment is also accepted by personal check, money order, or by Visa, American Express or MasterCard credit or debit card at any Roane State campus.

    The Roane State men’s basketball team experienced the tough road life this past Friday night and Saturday afternoon in Columbia and Jackson, Tennessee.

    The Wartburg Central Lady Bulldogs' bite proved to be just as effective as their bark en route to a 56-46 win over the Harriman Lady Blue Devils Friday evening at Richard Pickell Gymnasium.

  • Man accused of sex with 13-year-old

    STAFF REPORTS
    A 23-year-old man accused of a sex crime was arrested on Nov. 20.
    Jeremy Alexander Martin is charged with statutory rape.
    According to court records, he was indicted by the Roane County grand jury on Feb. 22 for having sex with a minor in 2010.
    The alleged victim was 13 at the time.   
    Jail records list Martin’s address as 304 Burkett Road, which is near Rockwood.
    He’s scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 2.
    Martin was also charged with possession of a prohibited weapon.

  • LOC fate still up in air

    More time.
    Steve Kelley said that’s what’s needed before the Roane County Commission can vote on an interlocal agreement that calls for cooperation amongst several counties on issues related to U.S. Department of Energy activities in Oak Ridge.
    The resolution to approve the agreement appeared on the commission’s Nov. 14 agenda.
    Kelley, a commissioner and Oak Ridge resident, recommended the commission postpone the matter for 60 days. It was approved unanimously.
