  • Green Waves fall in nine innings, 2-1

    Midway’s Thomas Viar and Grace Christian Academy’s Zack Slagle locked horns in a good old-fashioned pitching duel Monday evening as Slagle and the Rams picked up a 2-1 nine-inning victory over Viar and the Green Waves in the second round of the District 3-A Tournament at Harriman.

  • Lady Tigers pound Greenback, 12-1

    Teams usually don’t get many easy wins in postseason play, but the Rockwood Lady Tigers got an easy victory Friday evening as Larry Brackett’s squad opened the 2011 District 3-A Tournament with a 12-1 victory over Greenback in five innings.

  • Blue Devils top Tigers with two hits, 4-2

      The Harriman Blue Devils picked up just two hits during Monday’s District 3-A Tournament game with Rockwood, but those hits were enough as Andy Adcox’s squad advanced on in the winner’s bracket with a 4-2 victory over the Tigers.

  • Tigers hammer Bears, 21-0

    It was business as usual for the Rockwood Tigers as they used a 15-run third inning to take a convincing 21-0 win over the Tellico Plains Bears Friday evening in the first round of the District 3-A Tournament. 

  • OS tops Oakdale, 16-6

    It wasn't the easiest win for Oliver Springs, but the Bobcats pulled away from a scant 6-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 16-6 win over Oakdale Monday night. 

    Oakdale started the game off with a solo blast by Ryan Powers for the early 1-0 lead. 

  • Jackets stay alive with 7-3 win

    Two days after suffering a disappointing 8-7 loss at the hands of Alcoa, the Kingston Yellow Jackets bounced back and kept their season alive Monday evening with a 7-3 victory over Stone Memorial in the loser's bracket of the District 4-AA Tournament being played at Christian Academy of Knoxville.

  • Lady Tigers rip Lady Rams, 10-0

    After splitting a pair of games in the regular season, Monday's match-up between No. 2 Grace Christian Academy and No. 3 Rockwood in the second round of the District 3-A Tournament was expected to be close. That wasn't the case, however, as Larry Brackett's Lady Tigers put together a strong performance in rolling to a 10-0 victory.

  • Lady Waves down Tellico Plains, 7-2

    The Midway Lady Green Waves moved one step closer toward a possible District 3-A Tournament championship Monday evening with a 7-2 victory over Tellico Plains.

  • FAST Camp set for June

    The 2011 F.A.S.T Football Camp for ages 6-13 will be held from 5-8 p.m. on June 6,7 and 9 at Roane State Community College.

    The camp will be directed by Oliver Springs head coach Wiley Brackett, Cherokee head coach Brian Pankey and Rockwood head coach John Webb.

  • Chamber award recipients told

    The Roane County Chamber of Commerce presented its prestigious annual business awards last week before a crowd of about 150 community and business leaders who attended the 65th annual banquet.

    The event, which draws community and business leaders from the county and region, was in Whitestone County Inn.

    Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett delivered the keynote speech and described how the governor and the legislature are working hard to reduce the size of government while improving its effectiveness.
