  • Ridge View honor students help feed area’s hungry
  • Roane FFA members eligible for scholarship

    Monty’s Plant Food Co., a Louisville, Ky.-based manufacturer of plant and soil enhancement products for the agricultural industry, is now accepting applications from Tennessee stu-
    dents for four $1,000 college scholarships.

    The awards will be made in conjunction with the National FFA Organization to high school seniors who are members of FFA.

    To be eligible students must also meet criteria, including:

  • Church Calendar: Dec. 30-Jan. 7

    SUNDAY, DEC. 30
    • New Midway Missionary Baptist Church, Kingston, will have its fifth Sunday night singing beginning at 6 p.m. The church is on New Midway Road.

    MONDAY, JAN. 7

    • Kingston First Baptist Church’s Young at Heart will meet at 10:30 a.m. in the church’s family life center at 215 N. Kentucky St. Chuck and Diana Whaley will present the program on the Voice of Children-Haiti. Those attending are asked to bring soup, sandwiches or dessert for the meal following the program.

  • Church honored for proper U.S. flag display

    Members of Avery Trace Chapter NSDAR award Southwest Point Baptist Church Pastor Larry Bolden with a Certificate of Excellence for the Kingston church’s proper use, correct display and patriotic preservation of the U.S. flag with the display honoring veterans of American wars on Veterans Day.

  • Midway splits with Coalfield

    The Midway Lady Green Waves snapped a three-game losing streak with a 50-42 win over Coalfield last Friday night at Midway. 

  • Team Elite Performance has strong showing at state event

    Team Elite Performance recently took home several first place awards in the 2012 Tennessee State Open Championship Powerlifting Competition held at Elite Performance Gym in Harriman.

  • Rockwood sweeps Berean Christian

    The Rockwood Lady Tigers were feeling festive during this Christmas season in a 56-19 rout over the Berean Christian Lady Eagles. 

    Rockwood took the early 14-1 lead at the end of the first period and took a convincing 33-6 halftime advantage. 

  • Tax error brought up again

    Roane County Property Assessor David Morgan wasn’t holding any toys when he addressed the commission on Dec. 10, but some thought there was something playful about his explanation for erroneously having a $4,577 refund approved.

    “Why you playing yo-yo?” Commissioner Bobby Collier asked.

    “I’m not,” Morgan responded.
