  • Jackets sweep Midway to end regular season

    The Kingston Yellow Jackets and Lady Jackets closed out their regular season in style Friday night as both squads downed Midway in a non district match-up.

    The Lady Jackets were in charge from start to finish as they cruised to a 45-25 victory.

  • Lady Waves come up short in title game

    When the Midway Middle School Lady Waves lost starting post Ragyn Hall in the Area 4 AA Tournament and then dropped a 60-23 decision to Lenoir City in the Area 4 AA title game, not many people expected Susan Woody’s squad to make a run in the East Tennessee Class AA Sectional Tournament last week at Pigeon Forge.

    The Rockwood Tigers captured the District 3-A regular season title Monday night with a 71-52 victory at Midway.

    The Roane State men’s basketball team experienced bitterly-fought road games at Volunteer State Friday night and at Motlow State Saturday afternoon. The Raiders edged Vol State, 72-71, but lost a heartbreaker at Motlow 64-61.

    We extend our deepest sympathy to the family of Lorrain Harrison, who recently passed away in University of Tennessee Medical Center. She was the mother of two sons and the daughter of Mariah Harrison. Services were held for her Feb. 4 in Kyker Funeral Home in Kingston. The Rev. Mark Green officiated. Our prayers are with her family and friends.

  • 'Live from Antarctica' today at museum

    The public is welcome to participate in “Live from Antarctica” in Oak Ridge’s American Museum of Science and Energy at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 13, as PolarTREC researcher Alex Eilers performs the tagging of Weddell seals in the Ross Sea in Antarctica and discusses her research project.

    The program will be in the museum’s auditorium.

  • Master Gardeners to study ‘Orchard Skills’

    “Orchard Skills: From Planting to Pruning” is the topic of the Roane County Master Gardener’s  sixth winter workshop, planned for Feb. 25.

    The Master Gardeners are teaming up with Roane County Extension Agent Grant Palmer and Bradbury United Methodist Church to provide both classroom training and active, hands-on experience in an orchard.
