    The Midway Lady Waves started off on a roll, but following an 11-3 tilt in the second period, Midway never recovered and the Monterey Lady Wildcats wound up surfing past the Midway Lady Waves 47-35 Tuesday evening.

    Avid joggers frequenting the trail winding around Watts Bar Lake in Kingston may have noticed
    some recent additions at the foot of Fort Southwest Point.

    Coordinating with both the Tennessee Valley Authority and Kingston Parks and Recreation Department, Chip Wise of Boy Scout Troop 101 has struck a formidable effort to earn the rank of Eagle Scout by constructing three exercise stations along the walking trail.

  • 116 students take part in 4-H public speaking contest

    One hundred sixteen students in grades 4-12 competed earlier this month in the Roane County 4-H public-speaking contest.

    Fourth-graders vied for the county title for their grade level on Dec. 7 in Kingston Church of Christ’s family life center.

    Students in grades 5-12 took part in a Dec. 9 contest in Roane County Courthouse, Kingston.

  • THP to conduct sobriety checks in Roane County

    The Tennessee Highway Patrol will conduct sobriety roadside safety checkpoints from 9 to 10 p.m. Jan. 1 on U.S. Hwy. 70 at Poland Hollow Road in Roane County.

    Recognizing the danger presented to the public by intoxicated drivers, troopers will concentrate their efforts on vehicles being operated by intoxicated drivers.

    The Tennessee Highway Patrol has found these sobriety checkpoints to be an effective means of enforcing DUI laws of Tennessee while ensuring the protection of all motorists.

  • State on the grow: More than 6.3 million calling Tennessee home

    Tennessee has experienced an 11.5-percent surge in population over the past 10 years, the U.S. Census Bureau reported Tuesday.

    That number is part of the findings of the bureau’s most recent federally mandated head count. The population count is mandated by the U.S. Constitution every decade and helps apportion the number of representatives in U.S. Congress.

  • Schatzer snags $2,500 scholarship with video

    Roane State Community College sophomore Alli Schatzer of Kingston was one of the weekly winners in Dr Pepper’s Million Dollar Tuition Giveaway contest.

    Schatzer received a $2,500 scholarship for her video explaining why she deserved to win money for tuition.

    Dr Pepper solicited submissions from students across the country.

    In Schatzer’s creative video, she gives Dr Pepper reasons to pick her through messages written on her hands.
