    Six days after picking up a big victory at Walters State, Randy Nesbit’s Roane State Raiders ran into a hot shooting group of Eagles from Dyersburg State and the result was a 73-68 loss.

    The Harriman Middle School Blue Devils and Midway Green Waves locked horns in a pair of close games Monday night and in the end the long-time rivals would have to settle for a split in their two games.

  • MMS blasts Norwood

    The Midway Middle School Green Waves and Lady Waves picked up a pair of easy wins Tuesday night against Norwood.

    The Lady Waves took the floor first and cruised to a 50-23 victory then the boys took the floor and ended the evening with a 63-19 trouncing of the Jaguars.

    Much of the news media seemed bemused or bewildered when Sharron Angle warned of an Islamic-law takeover in America during her unsuccessful bid to unseat Sen. Harry Reid.
    Angle was widely ridiculed for citing Frankford, Texas (a town that no longer exists), and Dearborn, Mich. (with a large population of Arab-Americans living under American law), as examples of the imposition of Islamic or sharia law.

    Jaycie Brooklynn Mitchell of Rockwood turned 2 years old on Nov. 13.  

    She celebrated Nov. 14 with a party at a bounce house in Knoxville with family and friends.  

    She is the daughter of Miranda Mitchell of Rockwood.  

    Grandparents are Kendall and Joni Mitchell of Rockwood.

    Great-grandparents are Jerry and Cleta Brackett  and David and Trish Mitchell, all of Kingston, Peggy Carter of Rockwood and Thomas and Joyce Kirk of Knoxville.

    25 Years Ago
    Ted Wagner Jr., a former Kingston resident, was featured with his Nashville-based band, Moment’s Notice, on the nationally syndicated “Star Search” television show. Wagner played bass guitar for the group, which had won on more of the talent-show-format series than any other group except Sawyer Brown. Wagner once played with Cheyenne, a Roane County-based band.

  • Mystery play, homes part of Rockwood Christmas tour

    The 20th annual Rockwood Christmas Home Tour on Dec. 4-5 promises to be a magical experience.

    The Rockwood 2000 event, planned from 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, will showcase seven historic homes and an historic church while holiday music plays throughout the day.  

    The homes will be decorated in their Christmas finery, and holiday food will be part of the tour.

    The historic Rockwood First Presbyterian Church will have music programs throughout the day.

  • Mr. & Mrs. Armes 65th

    Pete and Imogene Armes of Kingston were honored on Nov. 13 with a surprise 65th wedding anniversary reception at Calhoun’s at Fort Loudon Marina.

    More than two dozen relatives and friends attended the special occasion.    

    The Armeses were married on Nov. 16, 1945, in Rossville, Ga. Over their 65 years of marriage, they have raised five children and enjoy the periodic family gatherings of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

    Brylee Crouse turned 5 years old on Nov. 15.

    She celebrated with a special cupcake party with family and friends.

    She is the daughter of Bryan and Brandi Crouse of Bay City, Mich.

    Grandparents are Tim and Vandy Earick and Gene and Claire Crouse, all of Kingston, and Jeff Jones of Knoxville.

    Great-grandparents are Larry and Margie Earick, Jim and Patsy Brown and Bob and Vickie Jones, all of Kingston, Dorris Simmons of Marietta, Ga., the late Reed Julian, the late Florence Crites and the late David Simmons.
