  • Customers hate paying for sewer they don't use

An increase in Roane County sewer rates is not what drew the ire of two people who showed up for a recent public hearing on the matter.

“I thought Russia was the only place you had to pay for something you didn’t get,” said Lewis Jordan of K&K Lock and Key. “To me, it’s the principle of the thing.”

Jordan’s complaint refers to the mandate that anyone with access to county sewer lines is required to pay the monthly fee, regardless of whether they receive the service.

  • Support teachers and their rights – for your own good

We are GRAVELY concerned about efforts under way at the state legislature to snuff out collective bargaining among Tennessee teachers.
Some would call this a pay issue, and, of course, it is to some extent.
But it is much, much more than that — and the outcome can have disturbing repercussions in every community in our state.
Anyone who remembers the days before collective bargaining knows that teacher hiring was largely politicized and nepotism ran rampant in school systems.

  • IMPRESSIONS by Johnny Teglas

Decisions, decisions. We face them with every breath we take.
Sometimes, they’re no brainers … we breathe in, and we breathe out. The most wonderful wife in the world has to remind her wayward husband to do it every now and again.
At least that’s what she says when I do something stupid that gets on her nerves. Needless to say, I comply with pretty much everything she says because I know she knows what’s best for me.
