    Roane State Community College basketball coach Randy Nesbit is among six individuals who will be inducted into The Citadel Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, Oct. 28 at the Holliday Alumni Center in Charleston, S.C.

    The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, in partnership with Delta Waterfowl and the National Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) have worked to donate and install wood duck boxes on lands where NRCS or districts have installed wildlife benefitting conservation practices.

  • It's official: 30-percent water rate hike final for Rockwood

    Rockwood water and sewer customers will soon see an increase in their rates.
    The Rockwood City Council approved a 30 percent water rate increase Monday.
    The measure will automatically raise sewer rates, which are figured as 150 percent of the water bill.

    Vice Mayor Peggy Evans was the only vote of opposition during the final round of approval.
    “I can’t see adding more expenses to each of those citizens out there paying these rates unless we cut the budget to the maximum,” Evans said.

  • Two men sentenced for sex crimes against children

    Two Roane County men are headed to prison after pleading guilty to sex crimes against children.
    William Howard Waters was indicted on one count of child rape last year.
    The 3-year-old victim was sexually penetrated by Waters, according to the indictment.
    He faced as much as 60 years in prison on the original charge.
    However, after reaching a plea deal with prosecutors, he will serve less than a decade.
    Waters, 32, pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual battery.
    He was sentenced last week to eight years in prison.

  • Kirkham-Colbert

    Philip and Lucy Kirkham of Rockwood announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Julie Anne Kirkham, to Richard Logan Colbert.

    He is the son of Richard and Wanda Colbert of Brentwood.

    An autumn ceremony at Evins Mill is planned.

    The bride-elect is the granddaughter of David Kirkham of Rockwood and the late Mary Kirkham and the late James and Mary Elizabeth Frazier.

  • Landyn James Goad

    Landyn James Goad was born at 7:13 p.m. July 6 in Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, Knoxville.

    He weighed 3 pounds, 2.4 ounces and was 16 inches long.

    He is the son of Tressa Shawntae Gibson and Travis Ray Goad of Rockwood.

    Grandparents are Tracie Pickard of Harriman, Sean Gibson of Rockwood and Karen and Lonnie Goad of Harriman,

    Great-grandparents are Clara Pickard of Harriman and the late Willie Pickard, Beverly and Rolland Gibson of Rockwood and Hazel Frederick.
