The Women’s Center at Roane Medical Center has gone digital with the debut of its new, advanced mammography screening unit.
“We are thrilled to offer patients digital mammograms, as we know mammograms continue to be one of the most important tools for early detection of breast cancer,” said Wanda Diden, lead mammography technologist for the Harriman-based hospital.
“The new technology is going to provide great benefits for not only our patients, but for our physicians and staff as well,” Diden added.
The new digital unit will provide enhanced comfort and quicker services for patients.

Melanie Monroe has been named March’s MMCer of the Month at Methodist Medical Center, Oak Ridge.
Monroe is a certified nursing assistant who works with patients in the hospital’s flex pool.
“She is a hard worker and tries to put the patient’s needs first,” said Carolyn Shipley, director of Acute Care Services.
Monroe assists patients, family members and visitors with their needs and is responsible for taking and recording patients’ vital signs, assisting with meals, bathing and transportation.
She also provides assistance to registered nurses and licensed practical nurses on staff.

Roane County’s 4.4-percent growth in population over the last decade didn’t disappoint Sequoyah Shores resident Tony Scruggs.  

“That’s a good thing,” he said. “We don’t need no more people here.”

Scruggs may not be alone in his opinions.  

What some has termed the worst dump in Roane County is getting a cleanup.

“People have been dumping here for years and years,” said Tony Brown about the site on Ben Henry Road near Harriman. “I bet you there is over 1,000 tires on this site.”

Brown oversees Keep Roane Beautiful as part of his job as Roane County parks director.
