Kenneth Ray “Kenny” Abels Sr. of Oliver Springs celebrated his 90th birthday on Sept. 3 with a party given in his honor and attended by many relatives and friends.
He is the son of the late Robert and Nancy Ables, who lived in Rockwood.
He and his wife, Kathleen Daniels Abels, had been married for 45 years when she died in 1991.
A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he worked as a coal miner in Fork Mountain, Tenn., then at Brushy Mountain Prison. He retired from J.C. Penney Co. in 1984.
