  • Folks step up for teachers

    With a little more than a week remaining before teachers would be picking up supplies at Roane County Chamber of Commerce’s Teachers Supply Closet, less than a third of the goal for donations had been received.

    It was time to sound the alarm to make things happen if the Closet was going to be successful.

    Allen Lutz, education and workforce development specialist for The Roane Alliance, responded with an email to businesses and media sources.

  • Roane State Community College graduates: Summer 2012

    A number of Roane State Community College students from Roane County graduated following summer semester.

    Graduating cum laude with a 3.69-3.5 grade-point average were Kelli Reed of Harriman, Jared King and Samuel Stephenson, both of Kingston.

    Other graduates from Roane County are:

    Harriman — Amber Butcher, Cedric Clinkscales, Lavoisier Gadsden-Gilliard, Kayla Gibson, Will Maines and Lindsey Walkup.

  • Roane State Community College dean's list: Summer 2012

    Ashley Hahn of Kingston is among the students earning dean’s list placement at Roane State Community College for summer semester.

    To be eligible, a student must attain at least a 3.5 grade-point average while attempting 12 or more semester hours of college-level courses.

    Roane State is a two-year college providing transfer curricula, career-preparation programs and continuing education.

    Founded in 1971, the college’s main campus is in Roane County between Harriman and Rockwood.

  • Midway students of month honored

    Midway Elementary School principal Tim Thompson, far left in back row, recently honored the school’s September students of the month.

    They include, by grade order, Josie Nichols, Kaden Wright, Emorie Jones, Zachary Graham, Chesney Cash, Parker Jones, Harry Jackson, Rylan Guettner, Bradley Dishman, John Kevorkian, Sierra Cowell, Anna Fink, Zane Edwards, Shayla Wood, Ty Mason, Brandon Williams, Natrice Childress, Cailynn Shelley, Daelyn Thompson, Dalton Carroll, Gracey Hixon, Elijah Payne and Natalie Booth.

  • Tennessee students to cast votes in online mock election

    Students all across Tennessee will participate in the largest student-driven civics project in the United States this fall.

    Millions of students will cast their votes in The My Voice National Student Mock Election, giving them the opportunity to select their candidates in both the federal and state elections and to talk about the issues they care about this fall and beyond.

  • Tennessee Technology Center at Crossville graduates: Summer 2012

    Cody Pierce of Roane County was among the 23 students who participated in summer graduation at Technology Center at Crossville.

    Pierce is a graduate of the center’s heating, ventilation and air-conditioning technology program.

    Students from nine counties participated in the ceremony.
