  • Dispose of unused prescription meds on Take-Back Day

    National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day – when thousands of pounds of unused and potentially addictive medications and other substances are removed from homes around the United States – will be  on Oct. 26.

    The aim of the event is to help reduce the number of teens and adults who are abusing prescription medicines.

    The event is held twice each year and helps raise awareness of the permanent prescription-drug-disposal boxes that have been established around the nation.

  • Preservation conference set Nov. 7-9

    East Tennessee Preservation Alliance and Knox Heritage will host the fifth annual East Tennessee Preservation Conference on Nov. 7-9 in Maryville.

    The theme, The Power of Place. guides the schedule by offering activities and sessions that prompt participants to celebrate and capitalize on East Tennessee’s authentic places.

    Across East Tennessee, communities are positioning their cultural assets as amenities for residents and visitors, which create a richer, more desirable place.

  • Carmichael school group meeting set

    Julia H. Daniel will give a report on “Echoes of Emancipation: One Region, Many Voices” during the next Mayme Carmichael School Organization Inc. regular monthly meeting.

    The meeting will start at 6 p.m. Oct. 29 in Oliver Springs Municipal Services Annex Building at 906  E. Tri County Blvd.

    Daniel attended the “Echoes of Emancipation: One Region, Many Voices” conference on Oct. 4-5 at Tusculum College, Greeneville.

    The Tennessee Valley Athletic Association (TVAA) heads into the final week  of play with all four division regular season championships settled. 

  • Green teams collide in county title game

     

    The Rockwood Tigers and Midway Green Wave usually don’t need any extra incentive to get fired up to play each other on the gridiron, but they will have just that Friday night as the winner of Friday’s game at Civitan Field will take home the Roane County Championship Trophy.
