  • RSCC among partners getting federal monies

    Roane State Community College is part of a 10-college consortium that recently received a $19.7 million federal grant to provide training in high-tech fields.

    Anne Arundel Community College in Maryland will lead the national consortium, which includes colleges in nine states with emphasis in science, technology, engineering and math fields.

    The consortium was awarded a U.S. Department of Labor grant as part of its Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training initiative.

  • Operation Christmas Child collections set for Nov. 14-21

    While many Roane County families are busy with holiday activities, a group of area volunteers is focused on filling empty shoe boxes with school supplies, toys, hygiene items and notes of encouragement for needy kids overseas.

    These families are participating in Operation Christmas Child, and volunteers working at Kingston First Baptist Church’s collection site are looking to collect 800 gifts for needy children this Christmas.

  • Cornetts singing at One Faith church

    The Cornetts gospel group will sing at 1 p.m. Nov. 6 in One Faith Community Church, Rockwood.

    Steve Cornett, Brenda Cornett Braswell and Carol Cornett Hill started their music ministry as children in their father’s church in West Grove, Pa.

    After 19 years apart, they are embarking on a reunion tour.

    They will be available for a “meet and greet” session after Sunday’s concert.

  • Kingston duo gearing up for state championship

    Roane County High School senior John Carothers and sophomore Andrew Layne will be looking to run the race of their lives Saturday morning as both have qualified for the TSSAA Class A/AA Cross Country Championship that will be held Saturday at Nashville’s Percy Warner Park beginning at 10:45 a.m.

    Roane State Community College women’s basketball coach Monica Boles fine-tuned her team’s conditioning regimen during the offseason.

    The result, she said, is a team that’s ready to run.

    The applicant is listed as CDP Development Inc., 1600 Division Street, Suite 670, Nashville. Panattoni Development Co. list that same address for its Tennessee office.
