  • DOE to test sirens on Wednesday

    The U.S. Department of Energy’s public warning siren system will be tested today, Sept. 7, in areas surrounding the department’s Oak Ridge Reservation.

    The sirens will be tested between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. People in these areas during the test will hear a siren for 3-5 minutes.

    The sirens are near DOE’s East Tennessee Technology Park, Y-12 National Security Complex and Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

  • Regional emergency management forum to focus on changes after 9/11 tragedies

    The U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge Office will host the 10th annual Oak Ridge Regional Emergency Management Forum on Sept 8.

    This year’s theme is “Ten Years After 9/11: Changes in America.”

    Activities will begin at 8 a.m. Admission is free and open to the public.

    The DOE at Oak Ridge and the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency collaborated to sponsor this year’s forum in the Y-12 New Hope Center, Oak Ridge.  

  • Ladd-Narramore

    P.J. Ladd and Blake Narramore announce their forthcoming marriage.

    The ceremony will be at 5 p.m. Oct. 22 at Whitestone Country Inn, Kingston. A reception will follow in The Lion & Lamb Banquet Hall at Whitestone.

    Invitations will be sent to selected individuals to join the couple on their special day.

    The bride-elect is the daughter of Melissa Stout of Kingston, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Letner of Harriman and Claude Ladd of Knoxville.

  • Strunk-Easter

    Janet Langley Settle and Richard Settle Jr. of Abingdon, Va., and Kenneth Ray Strunk of Huntsville announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Dr. Sarah Rae Strunk of Boston, to Nickolas Paul Easter also of Boston.

    He is the son of Gwen Loy Easter of Maryville and Dennis Edward and Denise Easter of Harriman.

    An October wedding is planned in Abingdon.

  • Dr. & Mrs. Horton

    Jessica White of Kingston and Dr. Daniel Horton of Maryville were married on May 14 at Armstrong-Lockett House at Crescent Bend.

    James Lawson of Sacred Heart Cathedral officiated during the 5 p.m. ceremony.

    The bride is the daughter of Dan and Diane White of Kingston. Her grandparents are Bob and Beverly Scofield of Kingston.

    The groom is the son of Marc and Esther Horton of Maryville.

    The bride was escorted by her father.

  • Anna Elizabeth Oliver

    Anna Elizabeth Oliver was born June 16 in Parkwest Medical Center, Knoxville.

    She is the daughter of Alan and Cindy McGill-Oliver of Harriman.

    Grandparents are Maggie Bingham of Oakdale and the late Gilbert Bingham, the late Sam McGill, and John and Sherry Schuman of Harriman.

    Anna has two brothers, Austin, 8, and Aiden, 2; and a 6-year-old sister, Addison.

  • Aiden Wright Oliver

    Aiden Wright Oliver celebrated his second birthday on Sept. 4.

    He is the son of Alan and Cindy McGill-Oliver of Harriman.

    Grandparents are Maggie Bingham of Oakdale and the late Gilbert Bingham, the late Sam McGill, and John and Sherry Schuman of Harriman.

    Aiden has an 8 year-old brother, Austin; and two sisters, Addison, 6, and Anna, 2 months.

  • Music club kicks off 102nd season

    Harriman Music Club will begin its 102nd season on Sept. 8 with a covered-dish picnic at 6 p.m. at the home of George and Margie Wadlington.

    A Roane County High School instrumental ensemble, under the direction of Zack Williamson, will provide special entertainment.

    In case of rain, the event will be at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Midtown.
